Jay Weber Show transcript 12-10-25

Some people are asking me about Jasmine Crockett running for the senate in Texas: how much of a bloodbath is this going to be for her?

Look- Texas is a consistently red state, yes. And every ‘traditional’ democrat who has run against either john Cornyn or Ted Cruz over the years gets all sorts of hype. The polls insist -at some point-this is a close race-But the result is always the same: the democrat ends up losing rather bigly.

That is the most likely outcome of this democrat, too. But- lets reserve some space for an electoral surprise…given that Jasmine Crockett might appeal to a different ...and potentially untapped…. group of voters: those Texans who largely don’t vote out of disinterest or simply because they ‘never had a reason’ to really vote for someone different.

Just like there was a ‘trump factor’ that turned out to be wildcard and led to two wins for him. There could be. Could be. A Crocket factor that brings out more non-traditional Texas voters for Crocket. I don’t think it’ll be there, but let’s not discount that possibility, entirely.

Texas’s population is about thirteen percent black. You’d think she could appeal to more of the black vote…in a state that always, always, always seems to have white people running for their most important statewide positions.

Texas is about 40 percent Hispanic…and maybe there are some non-traditional Hispanic voters who feel ‘unseen’ or ‘unheard’ who will find a Jasmine Crockett campaign as ‘speaking to them’.

That probably won’t be the case, but you can’t discount it.

And for that reason, I say, don’t get to jokey and unserious about a Jasmine Crockett campaign in Texas-simply because she’s basically an electoral ‘unknown’ for that state.

John Cornyn is a long-time incumbent who shouldn’t have much trouble ‘beating back’ and democrat challenger, but i still cringed when i heard him suggest her candidacy was a ‘gift’ to Texas republicans and his campaign.

Oof. Be careful what you wish for- and don’t discount-any challenger- as a joke or as unworthy of your time and focus.

Cornyn was on Fox News and had this to say about Jasmine Crockett.

Texas Republican Celebrates Jasmine Crockett Running for His Senate Seat: ‘It’s a Gift’

I get the analogy, but Crocket- is not- an AOC. AOC is clearly a dimwit.  In many, and perhaps most ways, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez -really is- a nitwit who is only pretending to be smart.

Jasmine Crockett is a ‘reverse AOC’. She might be smart- pretending to be a nitwit..or a ‘woman of the people’.

I assume that most people don’t know that jasmine crocket actually grew up solidly middle class in Missouri and went to law school…and that she really doesn’t talk the way she does in front of a camera.

In front of the cameras, Crocket puts on that ‘black, ethnic, hood girl’ sort of attitude and lingo…but during her fifteen-year career between college and politics…she talked like a very average middle-class human being. The street lingo and attitude…is an affectation that she’s adopted since being in congress.

And by the way? I don’t see that ‘appealing’ to your average white or Hispanic Texas voter…. but…that’s the persona she’s adopted for her political career.

If I was Black, myself, I’d find it insulting. I’d see it as the sort of thing that jasmine crocket must ‘think’ black people sound like.

But that’s me…aging white guy in Wisconsin. I’m not sure how it plays in Texas.

In the April 2024 Black Lawyers Podcast, Crockett explored a celebrity's notion of temporarily exempting Black Americans from taxes to address slavery's legacy, while noting many already pay little federal income tax and suggesting direct payments instead.

I’m going to guess that Cornyn is right and that this is simply a ‘bad fit’ for the Texas democrat party…and I’d predict that ‘ghetto Jasmine’ isn’t going to fare well in the election and will probably lost big-time-if she even survives the primary But…I’d also predict that she must be done with congress, anyway, and more interested in being a sassy caricature of a black woman on one of the left=wing pundit panels.

If Crockett loses this senate race, CNN and MS-nuts and maybe even ABC or CBS…will be after her to be a panelist on their so-called news shows. She seems to be nearly as racist as joy Reid, but not nearly as nutty. I can see Jasmine Crockett being temu Donna Brazile in 2028 and beyond if she loses this senate race next year.

What killed me about this week -is that the Texas democrat party and a few of the democrats who were already running in this senate race seemed to clear the field for crocket. Really? You are so excited about this nitwit that you are clearing the field for her? Wow.

The primary is march third, and at least one other democrat has decided to stay in the race: a state rep named James Talarico. The name’s Hispanic. He looks white.  He might be more appealing to the Hispanic democrats than jasmine…but we’ll see.

Polls have apparently shown her in the lead over all other democrat rivals…but they also show she performs worse than most of them against a republican in the general election.

And so…this looks like a situation in which the activist left, and the so-called ‘base’ of the party could pick her in the primary as the most exciting candidate…only to ensure they don’t win the general…because they chose her. Let’s hope that’s the case.

The democrats’ best chance at winning that race is based on a brutal three-way primary going on the GOP side. And Cornyn is being pummeled by two younger, more aggressive, more overtly Maga, candidates.
