So... the DC insiders now say Chuck Schumer and the democrats are looking for an ‘off-ramp’ to end their silly govt shutdown...but they aren’t willing to ‘get nothing’ in exchange for caving...
And so...as of yesterday...it still looked like this standoff could last for a while.
So far, John Thune and Mike Johnson-the republican leaders in the two congressional chambers- have been in no mood to reward the democrat’s game-playing and ‘blame gaming’.
We knew that the shutdown wasn’t going to end before last Saturday, because the rapid activists and their ‘theatre kids’ had coordinated with Schumer and the dems to let them put on their little ‘protest performances’ before government reopened.
But given how the ‘no kings’ protests went-and the overall reaction to the rather embarrassing and disgusting videos and photos that were posted on social media in the wake of it-
Dc democrats -as of yesterday-were worried that the protests backfired and make them look even more useless, ridiculous, and extreme.
And yet- they know that if they cave to common sense and actually vote to end the shutdown and provide the 7 or 8 democrat votes needed to reopen the government-
They worry that ‘they’-the democrats- are going to get blasted and skewered and slammed by the very same radical activists and theatre kids who wanted this shutdown.
Listen to speaker Mike Johnson who held his daily media briefing again, as he has been throughout the shutdown. Yesterday he walked the reporters thru this: how the democrat leaders are in a jam...because they are so fearful of their own party’s rabid activists.
Senator Thune held the 12th vote to reopen government on Monday-and not a single new democrat flipped sides-now that the ‘hate America’ protests are over...
And that had Thune saying...this could be a long shutdown, i guess:
The truth is: Schumer and Jefferies -as the democrat leaders- now have no choice-other than- to try to find a ‘face saving’ way out of this.
Over the last few days, again, both of those men have sounded desperate to get president trump involved.... because they believe he could ‘speak for all the republicans’ and cave and make a deal with them.
This has been one of their theories from the very beginning: that trump won’t care if he’s politically screwing over his own party- and will cut whatever deal is best for ‘him’ and ‘his legacy’.
But so far, trump has defied that logic. The president has never seemed ‘more disinterested’ in this government shutdown than he does right now. It’s not hurting his approval ratings. He’s getting all sorts of things done with no push back-and every word he utters gets him news coverage because dc reporters need to report on ‘something’ before every new deadline.
So far? This shutdown is working out great for Trump...and it’s infuriating the democrats who have seen their strategy fail at every turn.
Listen to Hakeem Jefferies Monday: he sounded like he wanted to cry...as he tried to goad president trump into getting involved and rescue the democrats from their predicament.
I love the ‘get off the golf course’ line.... when the president has been getting as much-or more-accomplished every day before the shutdown. Trump won the standoff with Hamas and got Israel’s hostages back. He’s now trying to win a longer peace there...and getting all sorts of approval for it.
He's back to shrinking the size of the education department. His DHS is deporting illegals and completing the wall. He’s cutting deals for mineral rights the Australia and blowing up drug boats in the Atlantic as he takes on the drug cartels. He’s broken ground on his White House ballroom.
And this is all within the last few days and weeks.
Meanwhile-the republican senate has broken the logjam on trump appointees and is now starting to approve them in chunks. New judges are being approved.
Over in the house, Jim Jordan just referred Obama scumbag john Brennan for charges...adding to the prosecutions against the thugs who tried to ruin trump and put him in jail.Tish James is on the defense.James Comey is under indictment.
And thanks to the democrat’s silly shutdown- Donald Trump still has a little time to play golf.
My word-aside from the federal workers who democrats are screwing out of their paychecks...who’s really getting harmed here? As trump prospers and Mike Johnson dunks on Schumer and Jefferies every day?
The democrats-are not-winning this shutdown. And you can hear it in hakeem’s desperation and in Chuck Schumer’s never-ending lies. Greg, give us the audio of that ass-hat, yesterday.
SCHUMER: “So, Mr. President, we enter another week of Donald Trump’s government shutdown, and Republicans seem happy not to work, happy not to negotiate, happy to let health care premiums spike for over 20 million working-and middle-class Americans. Our country is staring down the barrel of a health care catastrophe, and Republicans will spend this week either vacationing or holding pep rallies at the White House. It’s been over a month since the House of Representatives even took a single roll call vote. That’s shameful. That’s derelict. Government workers must work without getting paid, House Republicans get paid without working. What about the Democrats? Our position remains the same. We want to end the shutdown as soon as we can, and fix the ACA premium crisis that looms over 20 million hardworking Americans, and many tens of millions more whose premiums will also go up.”
Every part of what Schumer said there is a lie, obviously: he’s the one who closed government. He’s the one keeping it closed. He and the democrats are desperately lying about a ‘health care crisis’ that doesn’t exist...and are trying to frighten people about losing their health care-when republicans were already working on several plans to address it before Schumer’s silly shut down.
No part of what Schumer says is true- except! -
Except! -the part about ‘Obamacare not working’.
That! He’s right about, but he won’t admit to the American people that Obamacare is-his- party’s ugly baby. And he won’t admit that-
Schumer and his party. He. And. His. Party- created the exact December 31st deadline that they are now trying to blame trump for.
Mike Johnson is right: the dems are desperately trying to weasel out of their own mess- by blaming trump and the GOP. And Chuck Schumer, in particular, is a lying coward.
He is the reason government workers aren’t getting paid. He says, ‘we democrats want to end the shutdown’. No, they don’t. Or the shutdown would have ended already.
And so long as ‘most’ Americans aren’t dumb enough or gullible enough to believe the alarmist lies they are telling related to Obamacare and Medicaid.... there is genuinely ‘no power’ in their argument or in the democrat’s current position.
And they know it. Trust me-Hakeem Jefferies and Chuck Schumer know it- or they wouldn’t be displaying this sort of desperation.
Schumer has been begging trump to get involved and cut a deal on new Obamacare subsidies so he can ‘save some face’ and have an off-ramp to get out of this jam.
And so far? Trump has had no interest in doing it. As one insider analysis puts it: if trump and the republicans hold firm thru November first, the democrats can try to blame ‘the calendar’ itself...for the reason that they are ending the standoff because....oops.....open enrollment is now open on the exchanges...and so, it’s too late to do anything about the Obamacare price hikes. Get it?
The only ‘off ramp’ people can see is- the excuse that ‘time ran out on the dems trying to help ‘save Americans’ from big health insurance increased. And so... They may as well reopen government, anyway.
And... we are right back to my prediction when this all started: Chuck Schumer is going to have to secretly engineer a capitulation that he will then spin as a win.
He must get 7 or 8 democrats from swing states or who are retiring anyway- to anger the democrat base and vote along with the republicans to end the shutdown- to weasel out of this-
And- then he must engineer some new b.s. excuse that has him looking like he hasn’t engineered the cave.
That’s how this all ends. But probably not for about two weeks, yet.
