My old KM classmate and ‘friend of the show’, John Nolte over at Breitbart-

Says CNN and MSNBC have seen their ratings tank another 40 percent since this time last year.

Yowzah.

No exaggeration, my friends, it really is time to wonder what the long-term future of these two cable channels is. The number of people watching these shows....and the pathetically low pool of people who their advertisers are reaching...really have hit a point at which management can’t even justify turning the lights on in the studios.

I don’t know where traditional TV and news programs and morning and late-night talk shows are going to go.... for these broadcast networks.... but currently....it looks like their extinction is looming.

Nolte says:

MSNBC and CNN are hemorrhaging viewers. Tee hee. Compared to this same week last year, MSNBC lost 40 percent of its primetime viewers, while CNN lost 44 percent. Now-some of this is attributable to the fact that last year was an election year, and tv and radio ratings for formats like this are always ‘up’in election years.

I’m guessing our ratings here at WISN aren’t as high as they were at this time last year, either.  We tend to get better tune-in in important election years.

But- even so- the drop off shouldn’t be 40 or 45 percent of the audience. That sort of cliff suggests a far bigger problem for CNN and MSNBC-and i don’t care how much Fox news wants to celebrate their ratings- even a sixteen percent drop-off in viewership year to year is about ‘more than’the fact that it’s not an election year.

That’s’ a big drop off-even for Fox.

To cancel their cable...all sorts of older people would have to figure out how to live-stream and use the tiles on their smart tv. I’ve found ‘some’ older people remarkably tech savvy in their retirement and old age...but far more are either afraid of change or easily confused....and simply like the familiarity of the cable box.

Trust me, I’ve spent hours on the phone with older friends:

Okay, do you see that tile that says Hulu? Click on that...

Ooh...okay.How do I move to that window?

Just click the arrows up or down.

Okay. Hold on....   Now it says...i need to sign up for something! Is this a monthly charge?

Yes, but it’s only a few dollars. We’ll just input your credit card number...

Heavens no.I’m not giving them my credit card!!!  Over the television?

Hhuhh...

That’s the biggest reason that it’s going to take a while to phase out cable tv.
