Axios came out of the blue yesterday, with the headline: why dems are suddenly confident about 2026
This is written by Alex Thompson, the same guy who ignored joe Biden’s obvious dementia and decline for 4 years, then wrote a book about how ‘surprising it was’ to find out...with jake tapper.
Thompson’s obviously cozy with his lefty sources....and claims this week that: 2026, at least to them, looks pretty good.
Thompson gives us five reasons- as laid out by more than a dozen of their top campaign staffers -to him.
First, he says: the "big, beautiful bill" is polling terribly. This is a classic case of the two sides ‘only seeing what they want to see’ in the polling results. Practically everything the republicans included in that bill is widely popular with voters.Dems are keying in on so-called ‘cuts’ to Medicaid and welfare that -are not-cuts to Medicaid and welfare...as a much wider group of voters will know- by this time next year.
Reason two dems are optimistic about next fall:
Cuts to medicaid and the affordable care act are expected to make the "big, beautiful bill" even more unpopular.
Again-see response number one.
Third reason dems are pretending to be pumped:
Prices are still high despite trump promising to bring them down. Economic approval had long been one of trump's consistent political strengths and now is not.
Again- this is a matter of leftists only ‘seeing’ what they want to see in the polls. Wages are up. Inflation has leveled off. Prices on ‘some things’ have started to drop, but in general, no, prices aren’t going to drop. That’s what 40 year high inflation sustained over 3 years will do to a country and an economy: it will push prices on everything up to a new plateau...where those prices will largely stay until the next round of inflation drives them higher.
The American people should not expect falling prices on much of anything moving forward, no. But inflation is tamed, and the overall cost of living will appear to improve for most Americans by this time next year, too.
The fourth reason the dc democrats are pretending 2026 is looking up for them according to Axios:
Trump's deportations are getting blowback after going well beyond violent criminals and gang members. Polls show republicans losing their advantage on one of their key issues in the 2024 election.
Kind of, but not really. I’ve got a different topic on this-related to what I said when trump and his team started their mass deportation effort: they’re going to have to be careful that they don’t overreach...or start to be seen as ‘too mean’.
Well- six months in- the DHS and ice have started to do a few things that ‘seem too mean’ to a wide swath of Americans, yes. But polls still show nearly 2/3 of the country solidly behind president trump’s mass deportation effort. So the dems aren’t winning on that issue, yet, and if their continuing position on the illegals is going to be ‘open borders’ and defending even the illegal thug criminals...no....this issue isn’t going to be an advantage for them next fall.
Then the fifth claim: democrat enthusiasm is up.
No, it’s not. They point to a recent cnn poll found that 72% democrats and democratic-aligned voters are extremely motivated to vote in the midterm elections compared to just 50% of republicans and republican-aligned voters.
Okay, that might be true. But given that most of those democrats live in the big cities and/or right on top of each other- that’s not going to translate into a lot of ‘swing district’ wins next fall. Especially if their party doesn’t get back on the right side of the most important 80/20 issues.
It’s true that in 2026, democrats only need to win a handful of seats to take back the house majority.... but they’re not going to do it by running on a socialist agenda that their party leaders refuse to condemn and give up.
Axios says- quote: democrats believe they're getting the right kinds of candidates in the house: people with little connection to DC. Who can run against both parties.
Okay, good luck with that. But if Zohran Mamdani and ‘Ethiopian Mamdani’ win their mayoral races in New York and Minneapolis- the most ‘energized’ and ‘extreme’ members of the democrat base are going to insist that that socialist platform is going to be the one to win in-nationally- and it’s going to backfire on them.
The democrats and their desperate media pundits are also ignoring the inconvenient fact that president trump’s poll numbers remain as high as they have ever been-as he’s racking up real ‘wins’ for the American people and keeping campaign promises.
Voters tend to really like that...and tend to reward that party in the next election.
The democrats and Trump haters keep trying to find ‘bad news’ in every new poll that gets released...but so far...it’s just not there.
They might be putting on an optimistic face when they are talking to Axios hacks and media members...but the truth is they’re quite worried.
Strategists and dem insiders are alarmed that the post-election effort to ‘self-correct’ and shift the party members back toward ‘sanity’ and reconnecting to the average voters -has failed- and instead, the top dem party leaders have decided they want to keep ramming forward with this very unpopular, anti-American, racist, socialist agenda.
Those lefty leaders seem to have decided that they can regain power and win elections again-by continuing to bash and trash trump.
Axios’ coverage suggests it: DC democrats think that if they trash trump and the so-called ‘big, beautiful’ budget bill...that they’ll gain the seats they need next fall.
The problem is- experts on both sides of the political aisle know better. Every bit of data and ‘focus grouping’ is telling them the same thing: democrats need more than just Trump bashing to flip control in DC.
Folks-five or six months after the devastating la wildfires- not a single home has been rebuilt and not a single building permit has been okayed by government-even though hundreds of homes need to be rebuilt.
Instead- as some conservatives and savvy la democrats predicted-
Instead- the leftist governments out there are suddenly talking about rezoning all those devastated areas that used to have luxury single family homes on them- for cheap, multi-use housing of the sort that the socialist left insists we ‘desperately need’ more of.
The easiest prediction in the world is: most of those people who lost their homes will never be allowed to rebuild....and the neighbors whose homes were saved.... will eventually be living in a ghettoized neighborhood with all sorts of crime, late night parties, and gunfire at night.
This is the way the leftists want to ‘fix’ la.
It’s why some of us keep mentioning that it-is- a problem that the most ‘exciting’ democrat figure for them right now is Zohran Mamdani. A stone-cold Marxist who wants the government to take over private property in NY and create govt run grocery stores and rent-controlled apartment buildings...while freezing out any additional private real estate ownership.
Mamdani -literally talks about- having government buy up privately owned buildings and high-rises as they go on the market while blocking private sector sales...so that eventually...government is owning and controlling it all.
This is not America. And that platform isn’t going to help democrats win races in any state away from the east and west coasts.
And so.... it’s ‘that?’ agenda? And more anti-trump hysterics that are going to ‘deliver the wins’ for democrats next fall?
Color me ‘deeply skeptical’ on that claim.
Oh-and Epstein. Also don’t forget Jeffery Epstein and the dem’s belief that they can make voters angry at trump over this while smearing him...and distracting voters from all of the wins the president and republicans have racked up for them.
Will the Epstein smears move even a single voter away from Trump and toward one of the democrats goofy, socialist candidates?
No.
Will it allow the accomplice media to keep more of the coming ‘trump wins’ out of the voter’s field of attention?
Probably. Yes. But I think this will be far less of a distraction than these dems are banking on.
