Oh boy-
Just as Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jefferies and the democrats are dusting off the ole’ playbook and plan to demagog health care to win back seats next fall-
Politico’s insiders are admitting that this mega-bill the republicans just passed might now be the silver bullet for democrats that they think it is.
Basically-for the reasons that people like me have already outlined: first- the republicans have a year to message all of the ‘wins’ this bill included for the American people-
And they are wins on energy prices, border control, and lower taxes that the American voters-should see- by this time next year.
Second: republicans have an entire year to correct the lies and change the messaging on this malarkey about how the reconciliation bill ‘cut’ Medicaid. It didn’t.
And third- 18 months is a long time to try to keep voters interested in and angry about something that happened well before the next election.
It’s for all those reasons that even politico’s analysts say ‘the republican passage of this mega-bill isn’t going to be easily spun into the electoral win that a lot of democrats seem to think it is’.
I would suggest that one reason the democrats are wrong on this- is due to how out-of-step they are with the American people right now.
At least- most of them.
Politico -does- quote a democrat strategist out of California who seems to understand this.Doug Herman says:
“If we say ‘they took it from you,’ but it hasn’t happened yet, it just complicates it,”
In a way- that allows the democrats to keep up the lies and the scare tactics right thru election day. And yes, that’s normally about the only way they’ve been able to trick, scare, and move voters.
It-does help democrats- that the actual Medicaid changes won’t take place until 2027-which allows them to lie about them ‘as cuts’...and ‘about how many people they’ll kill’ right thru election day.
On the other hand- if Schumer, and AOC, and Jasmine Crocket, and the Madison potato, Marc Pocan, and all these other mouthy democrats keep using the line that ‘this is going to kill people’...as they have been...
Well-
Most of us think that sounds like silly hyperbole already. Imagine how that’s going to hit the ears of most voters by this time next year- after they’ve heard it 2-thousand times. ‘Trump is killing people’.. And ‘people will die’.... are two phrases that I’m hearing come out of democrat’s mouths over and over again-
And it’s been going on for months. Now they think that they intend to keep parroting that- for another 18 months. That’s really going to influence swing voters?
I genuinely don’t think so.
This politico article-again-wants to characterize the reforms in the reconciliation bill as ‘cuts’...but they aren’t...and by this time next year, most voters should understand that.
Giving Abe Lincoln a new twist here: you might be able to scare-some Americans- for a period of time- but you can’t scare them forever. Eventually, they’ll either ‘wise up’ or simple ‘move along’.
Which is why I didn’t see a 16 month scare campaign based on falsehoods as being terribly effective.
Moreover- this Kentucky democrat is right: most voters are sick of high taxes- and say- I’m not on Medicaid, anyway. It doesn’t affect me.
And when they heard the republican explanation that this only about ‘preserving’ Medicaid for the elderly, single women, and disabled people who need it- and the reform is to make able-bodied people work a little bit before they receive benefits-
Well- almost 70 percent of Americans say some sort of work requirement to get onto a welfare program is a good idea.
Yet again- bottom line? - today’s democrat party does not have the American people on their side on this one. ...which makes it even more critical that their ‘lies about it’ .... work.
Right?
If the American people aren’t going to be upset when they hear the truth of the Medicaid changes- then the democrat’s only hope is to keep gaslighting them and hoping they believe it- right thru next fall?
Wow. That’s a haul for any political campaign.
I don’t think they can pull it off. Even the associated press story exposes the lopsided nature of this mission.
The a-p hates trump. Loves democrats. Its reporters and its product relentlessly mischaracterize things to the benefit of the left-
Voters don’t care about the left’s green energy initiatives...or unions....and they hear that stupidity about ‘tax hikes for the rich so often that it’s verbal wallpaper to them.
So please, yes.Let’s argue for votes next fall on those terms-and on those issues.
Republicans will message-for a year-we’ve lowered your taxes, secured our country and our border, saved Medicaid for those who need it most, and have fixed the economy....
And the democrats will be saying...we need to raise taxes on the rich...trump destroyed union rights....and the republicans won’t let us waste trillions on windmills.
Please. Please. Let’s argue over votes next fall on that battleground.
Please- democrats- ‘hold republicans accountable’ for clawing back wasteful green energy spending and killing off the Biden mandate that had us forced into buying electric cars.
Please.Spend months talking about unions and whining about collective bargaining rights. Please. The eight-in-ten Americans who don’t want to be in a union will really love to hear that yammering out of you. Please. Beat that drum.
Do you see why this is a losing venture-right for the beginning?
And this is an election year in which democrats are-expected-to make big gains, just based on historical patterns.
But it’s news like this that has me believing that the republicans can-at least- keep the senate- and might even be able to keep the house-
If this is really going to be the left’s agenda.
Some democrat leaders are already touring the red states and swing districts to scare voters.
In Louisiana over the weekend-Hakeem Jefferies's said it- during a town hall. Quote-
Folks will die here in Louisiana and in other parts of the country ...unquote...unless we put democrats back in charge.
The democrat’s message for 2026 is really going to be ‘people will die’ if you don’t put us back in charge?
Wow.
Well-give them credit for sticking with it, i guess.
To me, it sounds like one of the worst marketing slogans of all time...like... Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout-
Which is an actual Reebok campaign from years ago...
Or...more doctors smoke camels than any other cigarette-
Okay. Not sure those were the best ad campaigns.
‘People are going to die unless we win’ strikes me just as silly...but...we’ll see. I hope they stick with it.
I mean, imagine next fall, republican candidates will be saying: your paychecks are bigger because of us, your job is more secure because of us, the border is closed and controlled because of us. Gas and grocery prices are lower because of us.
And democrats are going to be saying: people are going to die if we aren’t put back in charge of things.
The democrats are going to sound like legit lunatics- saying ‘millions are going to die, if you don’t vote for us.
Okay, chucklehead....
