Democrats are back to calling him "Taco Trump"

Jay Weber Show transcript 7-8-25

I love how the liberal media is right back to ‘Trump’s caving on trade again’.... because the President has moved the deadline for new deals to be done...to August first.

I believe this is the reason that they were trying to turn ‘taco Trump’ into a meme...or narrative.

What was taco supposed to stand for?

Trump always caves?

No.Trump always chickens out. That’s it.

Trump always chickens out.

It wasn’t really taking off, anyway, but then trump bombed Iran and forces his reconciliation bill thru congress and refused to back down on several things that completely disprove the smear... And the taco went away quickly.

But it was his regular ‘moving of the goal posts’ when it came to imposing crippling tariffs that had some of the dimwits- including Chuck Schumer-calling him taco.

So yesterday, when the treasury secretary clarified that the new deadline for imposing tariffs as punishment on the countries that haven’t completed trade deals yet was going to be august first-and not this Wednesday-

The lefties and trump haters rushed right back to the whole ‘caving’ narrative.

But putting off the deadline again, isn’t caving. It’s negotiating and trying to ‘maintain your leverage’ as deals come together.

We’ve even got many of his wall st critics admitting that trump played this trade thing smartly...as he and his team get ready to announce new trade deals coming together-regularly-over the remainder of this summer and fall.

At least that’s the hope.

And i know that trump’s team only has about three finalized trade deals-to date- but the people who he has in charge of this say dozens of these deals are close...and it’s been president trump who has been in no hurry to agree to them. Apparently, because he enjoys the negotiation process.

And its politico reporters who are reporting that. Not right-wing outlets.

So far, there are finalized agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam...with a third deal ...with India...ready to be signed.

And so...they can be snotty about ‘moving the goalposts again’ if they want to.... but so far?. This is working out for us.

The shock of new tariffs in April certainly got the attention of our global trading partners. And it has not led to the economic catastrophe or new inflation and high prices that the so-called experts predicted.

Instead, president trump and his team have handled this almost exactly the way some of us on the right predicted he would: simply to leverage these other countries for better trade deals and tariff revenue...

And so far? It has worked out that way.

And with the markets rising and everything going as well as it has been- why be in a rush to panic or worry investors, again, with saber rattling for no reason?

This is why Trump and his team have decided to set a new date of august first for countries that won’t agree to new trade deals.

Treasury sect Scott Bessent has been all over the cable news stations saying...a flood of new calls has come into him from the leaders of other countries...wanting to get agreements done. Just over the last 36 hours or so.

Bessent was on CNBC yesterday and said this:

SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: Yeah. We are going to have several announcements in the next 48 hours. And Joe, I think what President Trump is concerned about is the quality of the deals, not the quantity. As you could imagine, as he started herding the cats and trying to get everyone across the finish line, when he said that there's a chance that countries could boomerang back to their April 2nd reciprocal tariff levels, we've had a lot of people change their tune in terms of negotiations.

So my mailbox was full last night with a lot of new offers, a lot of new proposals. So it's going to be a busy couple of days. But importantly, too, President Trump has said that the countries would not go back to the reciprocal rate until August 1st.

Part of the delay is the ‘bottleneck’ of agreements that trump’s team members are managing and trying to get done...and part of it is simply to apply ‘maximum pressure’ on these other countries, as Bessent put it.

During an appearance on Fox, Dana Perino suggested that the European Union had all the leverage in their negotiations with America....and Bessent smartly shot down that idea.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: It’s moving along. We’ll see where they go. They came to the table late. President Trump brought them to the table about three weeks ago with the threat of 50% tariffs. That got an immediate reaction from about five of the national leaders, and he had a call with [President of the European Commission] Ursula Van der Leyen right after.

We’re getting more fulsome negotiations.

Let's talk about Japan, the president said it's been tough to make a deal with them. He said they're very spoiled. How is that going?

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: Japan, again, they're great allies. I think there may be a nuance here that they have upper house elections on July 20, and a lot of the things that they're talking about require legislation. So we may have to see what happens with those elections.

One reason that trump has already gotten certain concessions out of China and Japan and some of our other major trading partners-is for that exact reason: basically? At its core? - the American people can ‘take care of ourselves’. We’ve got the means of production, and the raw materials do ‘make’ and ‘do’ all sorts of things for ourselves....and so...we really-don’t! - need all this foreign trade that so many people think we do.

This entire topic is about getting better trade deals for the American people-who have been taken advantage of- and even ‘willingly done so’ in the name of building other economies. Helping our global partners. Pulling countries like China and India out of third world poverty and technology. Etc.

So much. Of 20th and 21st century history has been about America ‘being generous globally’ and ‘helping the globe’ ...that it’s high time we get some thanks in return-and get long overdue. Long overdue- adjustments to these trade deals.

This is what trump is after. So, if he’s got to wait a few more months to make some of these foreign leaders sweat some more-he’s going to do it.

Yesterday- Trump sent letters to two of our greatest modern-era trading partners: Japan and South Korea.  And they were threatening letters.

And Trump and his trade team really want to get these deals done.... but.... there’s a presidential election going on in South Korea that’s complicating things...and has stalled talks for months...

And the Japanese have always been very tough on US products coming into their little island, there.

For example: their leaders keep saying...look...we have no tariffs on American cars. You can’t complain about tariffs that don’t exist on u-s autos.

Folks...the reason Japan doesn’t have tariffs on American cars-is that they ban all American cars from being sold there.  That’s why.

And so, with democrats and Trump haters only getting ‘half of the story’ here, and only really wanting to spin it and smear trump with anything they can, anyway- they don’t particularly care about the particulars.

Trump made additional threats to other countries, too, as some of our ‘enemy nations’ try to align themselves with these countries instead of the US.

These are nations that-obviously- don’t want to see any increased western military power or coordination...and so they are working against American interests any way they can-

And we finally have a president who is interested in pushing back against our global enemy nations-any way he can- short of military force.

This trade effort is an attempt to ‘shore up’ all sorts of global and political trade alliances well into the future and freeze our China and Russia as much as we can- moving forward.

Trump is tackling this because every other president of this modern era-since Reagan-has been too weak to do so.
