This is something I mentioned just the other day: America’s murder rate is suddenly ‘in significant decline’. And in virtually every major city.
Sadly-not Milwaukee. This city’s murder rate is actually ‘running ahead’ of last years...but...that little nugget of information might help validate the theory that this has to do with mass deportations.
When we talked about this last week-I said, “I don’t think you can credit the ice raids-completely- for this dramatic drop in murder stats-But I do think it has at least played a role in it. How could it not?
If federal agents are taking some of the ‘worst actors’ off the streets in our major cities, how would it-not? - affect the larger murder rate?
The great today- long time criminologist and keeper of records John Lott on guns, crime, and violence- says at the federalist:
When you let law enforcement catch criminals, you will get less crime.
I agree. It’s not a leap to realize that we are finally-after years and years of pro-crime DAs and putting up with rising crime and releasing prisoners- we are finally back to taking crime more seriously in most communities.
No, not in Milwaukee-
But check out the stats for Baltimore-who’s had a Chief and DA come in and say: the thugs and criminals in this community had better start carrying a toothbrush-because they are going to need it in lock-up.
Then they followed up by taking more than half of their repeat offender in Baltimore-off of the streets. The new chief said ‘we have about 5-thousand scumbags in this city who we keep arresting over, and over, and over again. And that’s going to stop.
Well over the last two years or so, 25 hundred of them have been arrested for crimes and locked up for some jail or prison term. And gee- crime in Baltimore is down dramatically. Shockingly so.
And it’s a lesson for every community and major city in America: going soft on criminals. Soros DAs and judges-etc.- is the exact -wrong way- to handle crime.
And it shouldn’t take geniuses to figure this out.
But we are finally in more and more communities- starting to see a ‘break’ in the left’s ‘soft on crime’ fever.
This isn’t quite the same because it’s US Congressmen who control Washington DC.
Yes, dc has a mayor and city council and local government, but it’s really congressmen who lord over the district.
And under Obama and Biden and democrat congresses, of course, Washington DC has been on a path to becoming a bigger and bigger hellhole.
Well- recently- a republican congress has been rolling back leftist nonsense in dc-
And get this- at least ‘some’ democrats have been agreeing with them-and voting along with them-to end the nonsense.
You’d need seven democrats to go along with those things...for them to pass and make the changes. I think they might be able to get them- at this moment...and I assume majority leader John Thune will bring them to a vote- to at least try.
With the democrat party in such disarray, currently, it’s not a bad time to ask some of them to splinter off from the party and rejoin the side with some common sense.
I wish i could guarantee that we have at least seven ‘common sense’ democrats out of the 47 left-wing senators, but i can’t.
Because in general- in this era- democrats ruin everything. They have terrible ideas and terrible policies that have only worked to further destroy and harm our major cities.
It’s why i worry about New York’s upcoming mayoral election. I was saying yesterday- I don’t think Eric Adams has been a bad mayor.
I haven’t been watching the race too closely, but Eric Adams hasn’t been ‘the worst mayor that city has seen-and yet, he’ll probably be shoved out of the job.
Eric Adams has stepped up to support law enforcement in New York and- angered a lot of NY and DC democrats by bucking joe Biden on open borders and mass deportation.
So, Adams is now running for re-election as an independent after his refusal to kowtow to Biden and the socialist extremists saw him basically pushed out of the democrat party in New York.
He’s not likely to win another term-and former governor Andrew Cuomo is the favorite to win the general election- after he wins a democrat primary.
I also said ‘he’ wouldn’t be the worst mayor NY has ever seen- even with his baggage.
He’s a disgraced governor who was credibly accused of sexual harassment-and who completely botched NY state’s covid response...etc...
But at least he’s proven to be a competent administrator and has exhibited some independent thought during his time in office. Andrew Cuomo-as governor- did not cave to the most extreme elements of his party-and he’s not a socialist.
So, I figured he’d win. But just over the last week or so- there’s a ‘brown skinned socialist’ with a foreign name who has become all the rage- and Cuomo’s team is worried.
This guy’s name is Zoh-Ran Mam-Dani and got progressive icon Bernie Sander’s endorsement yesterday... As the polls show, he’s closing the gap with Cuomo.
This will be a good test for New Yorkers: are they as ‘far gone’ as Chicagoans are.
Chicagoans had a chance to pivot away from socialism after mayor Beetlejuice’s disastrous tenure- and instead- they tripled down with dip wad Brandon Johnson. And we’ve seen how that has gone. He’s destroying what’s left of the city...and has proven to be the biggest ‘excuse making racist’ since Al Sharpton.
Now New York voters have a chance to prove they are smarter-and reject the socialist in favor of a more traditional, more competent democrat. Let’s see how this goes.
