Jay Weber Show transcript 6-13-25
Several democrat listeners have sent me stories on the new congressional budget report that claims the big reconciliation bill. Quote...hurts the poor.
See? See Jay? How are you going to spin that?
I don’t have to. Because we’ve already covered it.
In fact, we’ve talked about this many, many times over the years, in various forms.
It all boils down to this: you can’t give tax breaks to people who don’t pay taxes.Therefore-
Stick with me here-
Therefore- anyone who would get a tax break would have to pay taxes into the treasury- in the first place. Get it?
That is -genuinely-what this report is saying. It’s the media spin and the loaded terms that the various news outlets have chosen to use that create the narrative ‘the poor people are hurt’ here.
Honestly.
The things the CBO flags as ‘losses’ for the poorest Americans in this report.... are all related to the fact that- a) the poorest Americans don’t pay federal income taxes and therefore will not be positively affected when the rest of us get a tax cut... And b) some. Some. Of the poorer Americans will be negatively affected when less of our stolen tax money is going to pay for their free-bee programs.
That’s what the CBO is detailing here. Let’s be clear.... because I have watched decades and decades of this ballcap where-in.... The poor cannot ‘benefit’ from a tax cut.... because they don’t pay taxes....and so.... that is then spin as ‘them being harmed or losing out’. It’s not.
You never paid in in the first place...so stop whining that you won’t get something back that wasn’t taken from you....as it was from the rest of us...
And... I’ve watched over those same decades...the same ballcap related to things ‘being taken away’ of people who never worked for them and/or don’t deserve or need them. I’m sick of this spin, too.
Because the second part of this is: if there’s less raping of the taxpayers.... the people who benefit from the rape...will be harmed. They won’t get as much.
Bologna.
But that’s how this ‘CBO report’ is being couched.
That’s what’s going on, here.
This is the most honest version of the story-and it still leaves some wrong impressions. I believe this is the Washington Times:
GOP tax bill would cost poor Americans $1,600 a year and boost highest earners by $12,000, CBO says
Why the Congressional Budget Office almost always gets it wrong
Well, it does, doesn’t it?
But add the context: the wealthy and middle class are the people who actually-pay-federal income taxes. The lower 50 percent of earners don’t. And- those ‘low-income people’ having benefits taken away...are illegal aliens...and able-bodied workers with no dependents who-can-and should be working for their benefits.
So put your crocodile tears on hold, please.
It takes this news outlet until the very last sentence in the story to admit that the big, beautiful bill isn’t going to benefit people on the lowest rungs-because they aren’t being harmed by government in the first place.
We- the rest of us- are financially harmed every time they are taking taxes out of our paychecks. So- if there’s money being given back to us- great. We are going to be the ones to benefit.
If you are low income and don’t pay federal income taxes, you haven’t been harmed in the first place. So, you don’t need-or deserve any compensation or ‘benefit’ from this package.
This is a ‘tax relief’ package. If you don’t pay taxes, you don’t get relief. How hard is this to understand?
And yet-it’s this bogus way that it’s always spun-that has had weak willed republicans in the past agreeing to turn our irs into another form of welfare.
Because-in the past-when the poor people who never paid in weren’t getting anything back-we had republicans saying...let’s give them something, anyway, so we don’t look mean.
But they weren’t taxed.
We know. but...let’s give them some money they never paid in...so we don’t look mean. The lefty media is making us look mean.
And that’s how we’ve ended up with tens of millions of Americans who-do not pay federal income taxes-getting thousands of dollars for themselves at tax time-they never paid in and don’t deserve.
And if we really are in a ‘different era’ in this Trump era- the republicans should stop playing that game, too.
The response to this CBO report is it’s being spun as harming the poor. It doesn’t harm the poor. They don’t pay income taxes in the first place. And they haven’t been harmed...as the taxpayers have.
Period.
That’s the response here.
What about losing Medicaid or food stamps? They won’t if they aren’t illegal-and if they aren’t able-bodied people who refuse to work or volunteer even 20 hours a week.
That’s the straightforward answer to that question.
Republicans shouldn’t even have to break a sweat explaining it to people. I didn’t...explain it to you all, just now...and to the few people who sent me links...saying ‘what about this, Jay? How are you going to spin this?’
No need for spin: the bill doesn’t harm the poor. It just doesn’t reward them with money they never paid in the first place....like it does the rest of us.
and if they won’t even work a few hours in return for the rest of us paying for their health insurance...then they don’t deserve that gift from the rest of us, either.
