Our relatively new-and so far, - very impressive Secretary of State appeared in front of the senate foreign relations committee yesterday...to update u-s senators on how things are going so far- foreign policy wise- in the Trump era.
And as you might expect: the democrat senators on the panel decided they were going to use the opportunity to try to smear and embarrass both Trump and Rubio....
And...it didn’t go so well for them. They apparently forgot that Marco Rubio spent years in the u-s senate- as one of them- and as such-isn’t intimidated by them.
You could tell that a few of these democrat senators made the mistake of thinking this was going to be a normal hearing- in which they call a witness to ...quote. Testify...and then use the time to browbeat them and grandstand and never really ask them questions.
Well-that might work with most witnesses-but it wasn’t going to work with rubio: he was very good at blasting back at the democrat members who were intentionally being a-holes to him, to try to score points with their lefty activists and insiders.
The biggest jag on the dais was senator Chris van Hollen of Maryland. This is the clown who flew down to El Salvador to visit Kilmer Abrego Garcia in prison...when dems were still trying to portray him as an innocent, law abiding Maryland dad who had been kidnapped from his family and deported.
Remember this tool?
Well- van Hollen rambled and insulted Trump and Rubio for seven minutes instead of asking him any questions...and then ended with this.
That comment, I just got to tell you I regret voting to confirm you’... Was meant to be nothing more than van Hollen pretending to be a tough guy with an ugly insult.
And rubio was right to shoot back: that means I must be doing the job right.
Van Hollen then followed up with ‘that’s just a flippant comment’.
Well- what was he expecting from Rubio?
How’s he supposed to respond when you, senator, are going out of your way to be a jerk to him?
Rubio’s response was entirely appropriate. Moreover- he didn’t allow himself to be bulldozed by other dem senators like Tim Kaine...who wanted to blast the decision to let a few dozen white African farmers into the country because they were under direct threat of being murdered back home-
Rubio made Kaine look foolish by boiling it down to: you are only objecting because they are white.
Great line.Kaine looked ridiculous.
At another point-he defended stripping foreigners of student visas. He said-they got them to come into this country to study, not start campus protests and foment riots and hatreds...and so...you bet I’m withdrawing those vias.
And he told van Hollen: even more revocations are coming. I promise you. We will have law and order on our campuses.
Fantastic.
Then he said this
Perfect. Rubio-rhetorically- is so good. So strong. I wish I was that good- off the top of my head- as he and JD...and Ron DeSantis are. They are all rhetorical superstars- in my book. It’s an incredible, honed skill that they have: thinking so quickly on their feet and then framing their responses so directly and perfectly.
Really impressive.
Oh-
And if we are on ‘deportations’ again- did you see that the first deportation flight that featured illegal aliens here- who are taking up an offer to ‘self deport’- flew out yesterday?
We talked about this offer, too, when Trump’s DHS team made it: no, there weren’t going to be tens of thousands of illegals who are here who were going to take this offer, i said- but there would be some: accept a free flight back home, a thousand dollars once you get there, and be put on a list that will enable you to re-enter America- legally-if you choose to go thru the process-the right way- at a later date.
That was basically the offer.
This flight to Columbia and Honduras-had 64 people on it.
This infuriated the pro-illegal crowd, but from the video i saw...it was a number of families and mothers with small children. Women and couples who had decided they wanted to ‘go home’ after all.
And- this had to chap the activist heinies: officials in Columbia and Honduras also provided video of their smiling, happy faces as they deplaned in their home countries....to welcoming ceremonies at that end.
Oop.
Those aren’t the images these activists want you to see. They want you to envision crying children and scared moms being herded onto planes ....and then pushed down the steps of the plane at the other end by Trump’s jack-booted thug agents.
And so-it’s win for us on a few different levels...and it’s a start. As trump’s team said at the time: the average cost of a deportation is seventeen thousand dollars- and so- anyone who takes us up on this offer isn’t only saving us time and trouble...they’re saving the taxpayers money.
In that sense-the offer is working. And this was just one flight. We’ll see how many more there are in the future. I don’t think it will ever amount to ‘big numbers’...but...it helps the overall effort.
Then there’s this news-which is also great:
Yesterday, we talked about how-maybe for the first time since the carter or Reagan era- our border and ice agents were back to doing the law-enforcement jobs they are supposed to be doing?
Well- the LA Times reports that the Trump administration is increasingly bringing criminal charges against the illegals who are ‘newly caught’ crossing the border.
Remember- crossing into America, illegally, is a civil offense-not a criminal one. But there are certain instances in which criminal charges can be brought against you- and technically- jumping the border without permission is a misdemeanor and coming back in after you’ve been deported is a felony crime. And in the past, those charges were only rarely used...and then...’not used at all’ during the Biden era.
And so- in this trump crackdown era- the pro-illegal crowd is mortified that ‘new crossers’ are being slapped with criminal consequences.
Again-
This! Is what I voted for. All of this.
This-is what most of us voted for-and what new polls out just this week- suggest 70 to 80 percent of Americans want to see: laws being enforced. The border was secured. Real consequences for offenders.
These aren’t evil prosecutors celebrating as they deport innocent illegals...or ‘brown people’. In fact- I’d bet that most of these federal prosecutors-and their assistants - lean liberal.
But they-are- law enforcers. And they -did- go into this line of work for a reason.
And so- yeah-i bet that they are celebrating the sorts of victories for their communities that our past presidents weren’t allowing them to follow thru on.
We keep hearing that border and ice agents are finally jazzed to do their jobs, again. The boost in morale has been significant. It’s probably the same for these federal prosecutors who are dealing with immigration cases.
And it’s not because they are all ‘white supremacists’ or ‘fascists’ who want to prey on the vulnerable or ‘deport brown people’.
In fact-you’d be surprised how many of these agents are Hispanic, themselves. Down along the border, every agent seems to have a Hispanic last name-
No-these are people who went into the profession to enforce the law and help keep their communities safe. Help rescue the vulnerable in society from cartels and traffickers.Help get the dangerous drugs off our streets.
And they are finally being allowed to do it, again.
These so-called ‘pro-immigration activists are the ones who have been the ‘bad guys’ in this equation for decades-
And they do not have the more righteous or higher ground here.
Their fellow lefties in the news media think they do-and rush to them for comment -every time an illegal is deported....
But their side of this equation is not- the more enlightened, or even more ‘caring’ side of this argument, folks. It’s not.
