At least one thing has become ‘certain’ when it comes to the democrat voters: they have no interest in wallowing in the crapulence of Kamala Harris’ loss.
Maybe the party leaders and insiders and talking heads want to sit around and try to figure out why trump one and Kammy lost....
Maybe they want to do post-mortems to figure out how to fix the party- or-
Or just sit around and make excuses.
But one thing is crystal clear from CNN and MSNBC’s ratings, dejected democrats have no interest in wallowing in this walloping.
The ratings of both networks have tanked dramatically since election night-and are down at daily and nightly ‘lows’ that are well below where they were before election night.
The soul-searching at CNN started the day after the election-when they discovered that even MSNBC’s coverage had beaten there's and they are the clear basement dwellers in this competition for viewers.
MSNBC had a very good election night, in terms of viewership. There were more viewers than normal in the lead-up to the election, as well, because more people were interested in it.
But- since Trump won- wow-
Has the bottom completely dropped out for MSNBC. Every show they have has seen ratings drop of somewhere between 30 and 70 percent.
In fact, Sean Spicer on Mark Halperin’s blog, went thru these numbers with his regular guests yesterday, and this is a guy- Halperin-who has worked in tv news for most of his adult life...and most recently left ABC, I believe.
Still-he knows what the problem with the MSNBC product is and isn’t afraid to say it:
Spicer went on to say: NBC news has lost the trust of the American people....and people are saying...I’ll just go somewhere else, instead.
That is true, of course, but I’m also certain that there is a sizable ‘hang over’ effect being seen here- from lefties who were super-involved in this 100 day race to get kamala elected...exhausted themselves emotionally over the last three months....
And were then super-disappointed and need to take a break. That’s part of this tune-out, too. Absolutely.
Still- what a tune out: as it is-these shows never had much of an audience- maybe 7 or 800-thousand viewers on any given day.
Morning joe and Andrea Mitchell have lost 40 percent of their audience? Joy Reid’s ratings were already ‘nothing’...as were Larry O’Donnell’s: they both lost sixty percent of nothing?
Oh my god.
Only their close relatives are still watching at this point.
I love how Megan Kelly has made a splash for saying that Joy Reid is too racist for tv and MSNBC should fire her.... because it’s irresponsible even to have her on, anymore.
I’ve been saying that for years, now, and still- the execs at MSNBC keep her. They’re almost certainly guilty white liberals who are too afraid to fire her.
But-if there was ever an excuse and an opportunity: its’ now.
Joy, thanks for coming in. We wanted to talk about hot. Before the election...you were one of our lowest rated shows and were only getting about 600-thousand viewers in a country of 330-million people...
And now.... since the election...you’ve lost 60 percent of that and.... We are told that even research animals want your show turned off in the lab now....so.... yeah....we’re going to have to let you go.
If MSNBC execs were smart-they’d finally fire this nightly racist-and get her out of their lineup. They should also ban nearly every one of her guests, who also tend to be-other racists- who she’s invited onto her show.
Charlie Sykes is one exception...and without being able to pop onto the Joy Reid show occasionally...i don’t know what use MSNBC would really have for him, anymore but....
Maybe it’d be a good time for Charlie to re-evaluate his association with MSNBC, too.
He could lobby Chris Wallace to be on his podcast because Wallace has just announced he’s leaving CNN...because they suck.
He didn’t explicitly say that, but he made it clear why he’s leaving: there’s nothing going’ on at CNN and no reason to stay.
The word out of that operation is that CNN execs plan to fire hundreds of staffers and even ax some of their top ‘talent’ in a dramatic cost-saving move, because they are in so much trouble.
A different account claims Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper have already been told not to expect any salary increase... And Anderson cooper...who is their top draw in prime time.... may need to accept a rather dramatic salary decrease- or leave the station.
CNN has been floundering for years now-and you might remember that when an old tv exec, Chris Licht came in two years ago, before this Mark Thompson fellow-
He insisted CNN was going to go back to doing straight news. I said at the time: then he’s going to have to fire every single on-air staffer- because we viewers know they all have a left wing bias.
Once the cat is out of that bag-as a journalist-you can’t put it back in.
I did a segment when Licht laid out his plan for CNN-saying- then they all must be fired-just to ‘reset’ the credibility of this station, if it’s going to be a news station’.
Well- Licht didn’t fire any of them...and look where we are...two years later. CNN is still sucking mud. The ratings are worse than ever. The ‘retooling’ didn’t ‘take’.... because it wasn’t a retooling.
You can’t just pretend that Jake Tapper, and wolf, and the rest of them who have shown their liberal biases for years are going to play it straight now.
Okay...okay. Okay...okay...for reals now...we’re going to try hard to be unbiased.
Nope.
It doesn’t work that way- unless you clean out the bias-first. CNN has refused to do it. It doesn’t sound like Mark Thompson is disgusted -or wise-enough to do it.
So... slash people. Slash salaries. Have a disheartened and PO’d staff plod forward. And see if that works.
It won’t.
