High hopes for this second Trump term

Jay Weber Show transcript 11-7-24 6:10am

I want to talk a little bit more about the opportunity Trump, Vance, DeSantis and today’s republicans have to make this ‘new coalition’ of voters that were brought together this year as a result of the major Biden/Harris failures over the last four years permanent.

I know some listeners in this audience love Donald Trump to the point of cult figure...but for most voters who moved over to the GOP’s side of the aisle and returned them to power in January-

Understand that they shifted because of the terribly inept, destructive, radical, and extreme regime that the Biden/Harris regime turned out to be.

What was it that pulled in the likes of Elon Musk, and Megan Kelly, and Joe Rogan, and Tulsi Gabbard and RFK junior, and former liberal rappers, and a few BLM leaders, and more Jews, and Arabs, and black and Hispanic voters, and union members, and more young men etc...

It wasn’t ‘Trump’ or the ‘cult of Trump’. It was them ‘changing their minds on trump’ because he was the ‘fix’ or the ‘alternative’ to the current mess.

And that’s’ why there is such an opportunity here-for conservatives and for the republican party moving forward.

You are going to hear a lot about the political realignments that the country is undergoing over the next few weeks.

But let me bottom-line it for you now- because it’s fascinating.

As for those on the right who shifted left- their motivation is singular. Easy to explain.  The Cheney’s, the Sykes, etc.-

Their move to support Kamala was more straight forward and selfish: they just didn’t like trump. He disrupted their comfortable neo-con hold on the republican party and they want it back. So much so, that they are willing to join with the former enemy to make it happen.

But the shift toward trump and the GOP was far more interesting and consequential. The stated reasons were far more diverse-and real.

For example- RFK junior shifted-because he no longer recognized the democrat party, he’s been a lifelong member of.

his party had become intolerant of dissenting speech or different ideas, so anti-military and anti-constitution, that he said ‘forget it’...and shifted to the only alternative to countering that: first, running as an independent and then joining with trump.

Ditto for Elon Musk, who has always been libertarian at heart-and yet- voted almost entirely democrat until this year. Why did he become trump’s biggest cheerleader and most prominent supporter?

Because he felt the need to defend our first amendment rights to free speech-in the face of his new, intolerant, totalitarian left.  A totalitarian left who was using the levers of power to come after him-and his businesses-and crush him like they were trying to crush trump...simply because he wanted to retain his intellectual freedom and his right to disagree with them.

That is-genuinely-got Elon Musk so motivated to buy twitter and defend free speech.

Tulsi gabbard moved over because of Biden and the democrats are engaging in two war actions she cannot support- and one of them includes rejecting our longtime ally in Israel-because today’s democrat tent has become so anti-Semitic and pro-terrorist.

Everyone had their own reasons: most minority voters who shifted, Black, Hispanic or other, did so because Biden’s terrible inflation and economy has been killing’ them...ever since he took office.

For union members-it was the leftist push toward EVs and green energy that are killing off all their jobs.

For young men- it was the inability to afford a house for their young family...and/or switch jobs and launch their careers more successfully.

Different reasons-but the net effect is- these people all came together to reject socialist progressivism and leftism- and save the country from it.

And so now- wow- what an opportunity.

This has me excited.

If Trump has a successful second term- he can make this coalition of ‘newbies’ to the republican tent a more permanent coalition. We’ve never seen such a diverse mix of Blacks, Whites, Asians, Hispanics, Catholics, Arabs, Jews, union workers, young people, etc under the GOP tent. They all came together this year. So, let’s keep them together.

Again- they -did not- come together to support ‘trump’. At least not in the purest sense.

They came together to support the guy who was the alternative to ‘the left-wing extremism’ and American decay that they have all been seeing-and have found so upsetting-over the last four years.

And so, if Donald Trump and JD Vance-can manage to have- a successful second trump term here-and put the country back on the right path- they could launch a new era of republicanism-and maybe even conservatism...if we get these new additions to the party into the right mindset.

Ronald Reagan’s successes created a lasting movement and mindset that outlasted Reagan by nearly 20 years.

I’d think that a successful second trump term could create a more lasting coalition of Trumpism and republicanism for at least another decade. That’s what excites me most about all the people who had their eyes opened to the dangerous and extreme nature of today’s left...and reacted.

Jim Gherity of National Review is a long time Trump-critic-if not Trump hater...and so.... he’s not expecting much out of a second Trump term.

So-he’s looking forward to another unsettled four years.

I think Gherity simply doesn’t understand what really happened yesterday, yet.

Donald Trump came back from the political graveyard- and brought his sense of restoring America to the forefront again- because the country’s citizens needed someone to save them from today’s democrat party and their more open socialist leaning tyranny.

And so, this presents a huge opportunity for republicans. Whether you want to give trump credit for it- or Biden credit for it- for driving so many people into trump’s arms...

Look- Donald Trump has created a coalition that could have some staying power if he has a successful and relatively peaceful second term. If he closes the border and ends this border nightmare and makes his tax cuts permanent-his second term will be a win.

Let’s not suggest that ‘this is going nowhere’ before it ever starts.

In 2016-when Donald Trump took office- he really was in over his head. Had no idea ‘how’ Washington really worked, who his allies and enemies were, how to leverage his executive powers most effectively, etc.

He does this time-and he and his team will absolutely hit the ground running. And the mere thought of it already has the democrats terrified.
