Democrats can thank Harry Reid and RGB for the mess they're in

Jay Weber Show Transcript 9-22-20 8:30am

Here’s a fun contrast between the democrats on Capitol Hill and the liberal base: the Democrats and their MSM accomplices are blaming Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell for the situation they find themselves in with the Supreme Court...

But the activist lefties are placing more of the blame where it should be: with Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Actually- both RGB and Harry Reid are to blame for the situation the democrats find themselves in, but Reid is an afterthought for most activists.

RGB is still front-and-center, and plenty of these activists wanted her to retire during the Obama years so they could ensure the liberals would keep that spot on the court.

Instead- Ginsburg gambled and decided she could outlive a trump term...and as a result...her spot is going to fall into conservative hands for the next twenty to 30 years.

Beautiful.

Apparently-

At least according to the Clintons- Ginsburg wanted the first female president- Hillary-to appoint her successor, and that’s why RGB didn’t resign under Obama.

She assumed that Hillary was going to win the presidency....and she’d get to name a successor. At least that’s the story the Clintons are telling. That ‘this pick should be Hillary’s’....

Yeah. Okay.....

And I have to admit- some of the fun this weekend was in seeing how miserable the lefties are about the news that this is very likely going to be a 6-3 conservative court -by Christmas.

Rachel Maddow, who had Hillary Clinton on as a guest on Friday ... took some time to commiserate about what could have been...if Clinton hadn’t have had the election stolen from her.

What feminist outrage this all is.

But they have Ginsburg, herself, to blame.

Her chance to secure her legacy on the court was in the Obama era-and she took a pass.

We don’t have to guess at how the democrats would handle this same situation nor do we have to guess at what sort of radical agenda they want to push forward.

They were threatening to do it-before- Ginsburg died-and so the most they can do now is say, ‘okay, now we really mean it’....

They can now try to threaten all they want about how ‘all bets are off’ if trump does this...but....’all bets were off’....even before RGB died.

Democrats haven’t shown any restraint or bipartisanship in three years. What would make us think that they were about to, until RGB died?

Nope. They have only themselves to blame, and they are having to try to rewrite history-and rewrite reality- in order to make an argument here.

The only honest way they had to block this nomination was taken away from them when Barrack Obama and Harry Reid decided it was worth it to use the so-called nuclear option in order to pack the DC circuit court with liberals.

Most of you remember this: Reid ended the filibuster for judges and presidential appointees, and suddenly, a simple majority vote was all that was needed to confirm judges.

In erasing the Republican’s only tool to object to Obama court appointments, Reid also erased every future democrat tool to do the same.

So now they are stuck.

We are playing by their own rules and they have no legitimate way to stop this appointment, so they are resorting to rewriting history, and other false claims.

It was Joe Biden-who as the head of the senate judiciary committee- formalized it in 2006.

Biden insisted that-by god- none of George Bush’s future nominees would get a hearing or be seated. And for the record-Chuck Schumer went along with it and vowed the same thing in interviews.

So -Hillary’s first lie is- the republicans set this precedent. Nope.

Ironically-their own 2020 presidential candidate did.

She also says...Trump and McConnell moving forward with a nominee is another blow to our institutions and DC norms and are being undermined by a lust for power.

No. they’re not. In fact- Trump and McConnell moving forward-is!- the historical norm, and is how everyone else that was in power in the past handled this.

There have been 29 presidential nominations in the final year of a four year term...and nearly all of them got confirmed.

This was largely before the democrats highly politicized and weaponized the courts.

As for the claim of rushing things:

We’ve got about 43 days until the election now and three justices were confirmed in less than 45 days, including Ginsburg herself.

John Paul Stevens’ took just 19 days back in 1975.

So it’s been done before in this short a time frame.

But if the republicans would hold up the vote until after Election Day and then take it sometime before Christmas -while trump is still president-

Well-that’s 100 days from now. So...plenty of time. No rushing needed.

In fact, a court historian says. Every modern day Supreme Court justice has been confirmed within that time frame.

So working in hearings and a final vote any time before Christmas is entirely reasonable and in keeping with 50 years of historical precedent, people...

And even if we went the Ted Cruz route of making sure the person was seated before the election in case we have a constitutional crisis and lawsuits over the election results-

Even if we moved swiftly to make sure we had nine justices by election day-

Even then-it wouldn’t be rushed. Especially when the two women Trump is considering have both been fairly recently vetted by the senate and have already both been confirmed to the appeals courts in a bipartisan way.

All of the hard work and heavy lifting on Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa has been done.

Folks-everything Hillary states is wrong. Every part of it
