So- late last week and into the weekend-the claim was that the DC democrats were plotting a way to combat Donald Trump and Elon Musk and-demand-that this ‘attack on the deep state’ end...etc.
And the strategy they had settled on was don’t cooperate with any continuing resolution bills. Force a govt shutdown...because republicans in the senate need at least seven dems to cooperate on anything they want to pass to clear the filibuster hurdle-etc.-
And folks- we’ll get into this in a moment-but right now, democrats- only- have the filibuster to stop republicans in Washington. They don’t have control of the house, senate, or white house-and so- aside from rushing to the courts- dems have no way to stop or block republicans aside from the filibuster.
And don’t get me wrong: that’s a powerful tool. It’s also one that, until recently, Chuck Schumer and the dems insisted that we should ‘do away with’ so that they could ram the worst parts of their terrible, woke agenda into place.
How quickly fortunes change.
But- okay-they had finally settled on a plan: we will shut down government until trump and musk end this jihad against the deep state that they’re on.
Well-forget that. Upon reflection, Chuck Schumer has decided that he won’t work, either. The dems will only be blamed for it. And so, he sent out a letter on Monday to his senate colleagues.
So, this news from Schumer was a huge disappointment to some of his more rabid senate colleagues and numerous activist groups who have been raging at Schumer and the dems to ‘do something’ to stop trump and musk.
I did a segment yesterday on how-in truth-the democrats don’t have a great way to stop any of this-not even thru the courts. We’ve now got the left-wing news sites insisting that the democrats are blocking Trump ‘all over the place’ in court, but they really aren’t.
Trump has signed over 500 executive orders, already, Elon Musk and DOGE have canceled hundreds and hundreds of contracts and saved the taxpayers tens -to-hundreds of billions of dollars, already...in what amounts to dozens of moves by doge-
And so- if we just guestimate that Trump and musk have made over...oh....600 moves so far...including hundreds directly against the ‘deep state’ and long-time democrat sacred cows-
Well-
In response to that- 35 lawsuits have been filed.
Big whoop. The dems might be able to stop a few things-but they won’t be able to stop most of them-
And they won’t ultimately win many of the lawsuits that are related to trump’s executive powers. And I’m not the only one saying this: far smarter legal minds than myself, agree.
Because-as a constitutional question: does the chief executive have the right to manage the executive branch? -
Well, of course he does.
So, the leftists aren’t going to win many of these lawsuits.
That leaves the dems with Schumer’s pathetic ‘push back’ options.
What were they? investigations- (which the dems can’t do if they don’t control any of the chairmanships in congress. And they don’t)-
Litigation (we just covered that)-
Legislation- which they can’t pass because they aren’t in control of even one chamber-or- setting the schedule for either chamber.
And- party messaging. In other words: continuing to lie about what trump and musk are really doing and hope to gaslight the American people into believing them.
Do you see what a pickle the democrats are in-for at least two years? At least until-maybe-they retake control of the house?
Because-until they control one of the chambers of congress- these democrats cannot do investigations. Subpoena agencies. Demand documents from the Trump White House....
They also cannot pass legislation. They can’t even schedule the vote to pass their bogus bills thru ‘one chamber’ to pretend they are doing something- correct?
Do you know what I mean?
If your party controls only one chamber of congress, then you know any bill you pass is going to die in the other chamber, so you pass bills just to politically position your party. As in: we passed a bill lowering taxes but the democrats in the house wouldn’t let it pass.... etc.
Today’s democrats can’t even do that, currently.
And so, aside from political messaging to the media and filing lawsuits, today’s most powerful democrats have no power to stop-anything.
And it appears as if they are just now realizing that.
Since they are in the minority in both chambers-the democrats cannot call hearings on anything. They cannot subpoena anything. They cannot demand documents or information from anyone.... about all they can do is ‘call witnesses’ if republicans schedule a hearing on something.
If a republican chairman of a committee chooses to call a hearing on something- then- the dems on that committee can add witnesses from their side to the hearing’s docket in an attempt to get some balance. But that’s about it.
That’s about the ‘sum total’ of the legislative powers that the democrats currently have-aside from the filibuster.
And if I had more time-and a staff-I’d spend an hour going back thru the many, many times that Schumer and Baldwin and all of these other democrats have insisted that we need to end the filibuster .... over the last 4 years. When they control congress-they always want to roll right over it. Kill it off. It’s blocking the ‘people’s agenda’. And it’s a relentless whine and complaint.
But now that the republicans are back in charge of both chambers, we don’t hear the democrats calling to kill off the filibuster anymore, do we?
Because to be a democrat is to be a shameless hypocrite.
Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jefferies are pretty terrible leaders. They really are.
That farce last week that they organized as ‘the way to fight back’....backfired so badly and made them look so ridiculous that i think ‘taking to the streets has also been eliminated as a way to push back.
This was the protest event held in front of the treasury in which chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters, and Liz warren decided to be the ‘face of the party’ and held a rally that looked more like a revolt at the rest home.
Which brings us to one of the primary problems that is currently facing their party: it has no clear leader...and the few ‘assistant coaches’ that they have here, are genuinely unappealing people.
Would you want to share a meal with Maxine Waters, chuck Schumer, and Liz Warren?
You know food falls out of that bucket of a mouth Maxine Waters has, when she chews. You know-just by looking at him- chuck Schumer smells. He’s in that ‘I’m an old man and i no longer shower’ mode.... And as for Liz Warren: who would want to spend even a short period of time with that annoying hag?
I bet her husband is faking a hearing problem, at this point, so he can get a little peace at night.
These are the leaders of today’s democrat party?
No-
No-kamala is.
We are told that kamala considers-herself-the leader of the democrat party now. Apparently, she’s given herself this title- and yet-
Where is she?
Has anyone seen kamala?
The last time I saw her-she was walking to her seats in the nose-bleed section of the lakers arena, as the people in the crowd tried to ignore her.
She’s named herself the head of this party.
Then...is she waiting for the action to come to her? Because she can’t ‘grab the reins’ from LA, and isn’t stepping up to lead the Trump resistance in any way that i see.
Liz warren has been trying to do so, but – well- she’s Liz Warren. If she tried to lead a group of people out of a burning building, no one would follow her.
(you’d just instinctively know that she’s wrong: looking at you through those googly glasses: come on, the exit’s this way.
Ah....nah.... you go ahead)
Not only is ‘no one’ leading today’s democrat party- those who want to are genuinely ridiculous people.
And hey-at some point-someone is bound to emerge as the new democrat figure-head, but that could be two years from now, as someone like a gov Josh Shapiro or Andy Beshear arrives on the scene to run for president.
It could be at least two years in the wilderness for this party....as trump and republicans bulldoze over them-
If-
If- the republicans in congress can get their act together, and cooperate, and pass the bills they have a chance to pass. I’m still not convinced the members of Mike Johnson’s caucus in the house are smart enough to finally put aside smaller differences and work together to pass bills.
In fact, GOP infighting might be the best chance democrats have to stop some of trump’s agenda and rack up wins: as republicans defeat themselves.
But the opportunity for republicans is huge: every political demographic moved the GOP’s way last fall: men, women, young voters, working class voters, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Jews...etc.
The entire country shifted at least slightly to the right. If trump and republicans keep their promises and hold this advantage thru 2026 and 28- the dems could be out in the political wilderness for some time.
Do you know that ‘parents of school aged children moved seven points to the right last fall?
Parents with children were sick of the DEI bullying. Sick of the leftist culture wars. Sick of being vilified for wanting to raise their own children and/or send them to the school of their choice.
And now trump and the GOP have a huge opportunity to lock in these voters for years. Based on the first few weeks of his presidency, Donald Trump is already keeping his promises to frustrated parents. If he moves toward a national push for school choice- he will really be a hero to this demographic....
The opportunities for the GOP are there...because today’s democrats are seen as both too radical and too dangerous to be allowed to raise our children.
