Only 1 in 3 US adults think Trump acted illegally in NY hush money case

Jay Weber Show Transcript 4-17-24 7:40am

So- we have no ‘firm’ idea of how thus hush money trial in Manhattan is going to go for Donald Trump, really-

But we do know that DA Alvin Bragg and judge Juan Merchan have tried to engineer a felony case against our former president that several earlier state and federal prosecutors looked at-and knew wasn’t a crime.

And we do have that DA and judge-currently- this week- working to try to pick a trump-hating jury: a group of people who are likely to find Donald trump guilty of at least-one- of the bogus 34 felony charges that Soros pant-load Alvin Bragg magically dreamt up.

But here are a few other things we know:

We know that if this trial ends in anything-other than- the felony conviction that Bragg tried to rig-he’s going to look like the biggest dope in the nation...

And we do know that nearly everyone in the legal community believes Bragg is way out of bounds and is abusing the NY justice system in a hyper partisan attempt to ‘be a hero’ to the political left.

We also-also-know know-that the Trump campaign raked in nearly 1.5-million dollars in a single day from small dollar donors across the country on Monday-as the trial started.

That’s interesting.

And folks- we also now know that -as Trump’s bogus trial starts- only one third of Americans think that trump has done anything illegal here. That’s a hell of a good ‘starting point’ as we wonder how the American people might react to a guilty verdict.

There was this poll from the lefty Associated Press yesterday:

Only 1 in 3 US adults think Trump acted illegally in New York hush money case, AP-NORC poll shows

I’d suggest that those numbers- are not-encouraging news for the democrats and the Biden regime-who are hoping that a trump conviction is going to cause moderate and independent voters to abandon him in droves: not if only 30 percent of those same independents think he did something wrong.

In fact, this AP poll finds that only 60 percent of democrats across the country think trump did something illegal, here.

Now- that means they’re wrong-

But it suggests that this lawfare against Trump isn’t even ‘hitting home’ with their own voters on the left. Only six in ten are believing the smears.

Meanwhile- 90 percent of republicans and 70 percent of independents believe Trump committed no crime here.

And this is-before! -the trial starts, so unless Alvin Bragg can toss all sorts of salacious and unrelated smears at trump that somehow filter out to the masses and distract voters from the fact that trump committed no crime here-

This trial- regardless of how it concludes- does not look like its’ going to be helpful to democrats.

I’m encouraged by these findings because it proves most voters-do- seem to be following along here.

It suggests that most voters- even before the trial starts- do realize how scummy and dishonest Bragg’s case is- and aren’t likely to believe he results, even if the trial ends in some sort of felony conviction.

Moreover- get this- huge numbers of these same respondents are certain that Donald Trump

Will not get a fair trial.

65% percent of Americans say Bragg is treating Trump unfairly. Wow.

Now- the one finding that the democrats are clinging to is that-despite all of this- about half of independent voters say trump wouldn’t be fit to serve as president if he was convicted of something.

Okay-that could be definitive if a conviction sways their vote in fall. I don’t believe it will, though, given the fact that they don’t think trump committed a crime -and- they think Bragg isn’t doing this fairly- and- the fact that any result from this trial- ‘guilty or innocent’ -is going to come four or five months before election day.

Folks-if trump is convicted of some idiotic ‘felony’ before Memorial Day...and the election is still over four months away- people are not going to remember it-nor care- come November.

They will be basing their vote on myriad other things.

And that’s if there’s a conviction.

If Trump gets acquitted or there’s a hung jury, Alvin Bragg looks like a jackass, the ‘net effect’ of this trial will be to -yet again- simply anger trump’s base and further their resolve to get him elected in fall-

And we’ll all move on-into the summer and onto the convention in Milwaukee here.

I genuinely do not see how this trial-regardless of the result-is going to affect Trump negatively-even if Bragg and Merchan manage to engineer a conviction.

I’m in agreement with Florida congressman Byron Donalds- who predicts ‘this is just going to cheese off more Americans and give Trump a boost- like the indictments did:

I’d agree with that.
