Chuck Schumer vs. Chuck Schumer on Illegal Immigration

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to tonight's debate between 2019 Chuck Schumer and 2009 Chuck Schumer on the issue of illegal immigration.  I'm your moderator, Dan O'Donnell.  2009 Chuck Schumer, you may deliver your opening statement.

"Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple."

That's a very interesting point, sir. 2019 Chuck Schumer, your rebuttal?

"The symbol of America should be the Statue of Liberty, not a 30-foot wall."

2009 Chuck Schumer, your response to that?

"Until the American people are convinced that we will stop future flows of illegal immigration, we will make no progress on dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants who are here now and on rationalizing our system of legal immigration."

2009 Chuck Schumer, you are in favor of stopping illegal immigration altogether.  2019 Chuck Schumer, how do you respond to that and do yo agree?

"We can secure our border without an ineffective, expensive wall."

2009 Chuck Schumer, how do you respond to those charges that a border wall would be expensive and ineffective?

"Between 2005 and 2009, a vast amount of progress has been made on our borders and ports of entry. That progress includes 9,000 field agents in the last four years, construction of 630 miles of border fence that create a a significant barrier to illegal immigration on our southern land border."

2009 Chuck Schumer, 2019 Chuck Schumer, thank you so for your time and candid answers on the issue of illegal immigration and, to you at home, thank you for watching tonight's debate.
