This year, Saturday, September 25, is not just any ordinary day in Milwaukee. It has been a day declared to honor the voice of one of Wisconsin's favorite professional sports teams.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has declared this Saturday "Bob Uecker Day." This day is to honor Uecker as the Milwaukee Brewers celebrate 51 years with him as the voice of the team.

The Mayor tweeted out a photo with the proclamation of "Bob Uecker Day" and captioned it, "Bob Uecker Day recognizes "Mr. Baseball" for his 51 years of service as the legendary voice of the @Brewers."

In a tweet following the photo, Mayor Barrett wrote:

"A Milwaukee native, Bob Uecker has earned enduring praise, respect and gratitude from his colleagues and fans across the world due to his dedication to baseball, along with his humor and genuine delight in sharing America’s pastime with the world."

Before beginning his broadcasting career, Uecker signed his first contract to play with the Milwaukee Braves organization in 1956. He made his first MLB appearance with the Braves in 1962. During his MLB career, he also played for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies before returning to the Braves. His final MLB appearance was with the Atlanta Braves in 1967. After he retired, he moved back to Milwaukee and began his broadcasting career in 1971.
