I read that a Milwaukee Alderman was calling for a crackdown on late-night violence on water street...and assumed it was Bob Donovan.
Then I remembered he retired last year.
But hey, he seemed to be the only Milwaukee common council member over the last 10 to 15 years who actually seemed to care about the increasing levels of crime in that community, and, in fact, seemed to be the only member of the council who even cared to do their job, anymore.
The vast majority of the council members are lazy lefties now, who only really want to collect the 73-thousand dollar a year salary, and get the great benefits, and spend most of their days with their heads down on their desks in their offices.
If they even have to report to their offices, anymore. I doubt they do.
So, I couldn’t imagine which alderman this could be...expressing alarm over the situation on water street.
Then I read the article, and holy cow, it’s uber-lefty Bob Bauman.
That Water Street entertainment area is part of his downtown district, yes, but Bob Bauman? is going to demand more policing?
Things have to be bad down there, if Bauman is going to go against every lefty instinct that he has-and go against the BLM anti-cop crowd and demand more action.
The business owners have said that-to this point-Mayor Barrett and city leaders haven’t wanted to seem ‘anti-thug’. They don’t want to appear to be supporting police officers, or law and order, for fear of incurring the wrath of the BLM and antifa bullies.
But until Barrett gets some stones and deals with this, the situation will only get worse.
And I hate to break the news to the mayor, but so far? Some of the weak suggestions his team is making aren’t going to do much.
Can we- limit parking? Can we- put up signs that say no loitering?
What do the social workers in the kitty sweaters say?
They need to deal with the lawlessness. And it’s got to be bad if uber-lefty Bob Baumann is saying it’s a powder keg that requires more police response.
But will Barrett allow the MPD to step up?
That’s’ the question.
But there is- no-question as to why so many of our major cities are devolving into hellholes. Because the liberals and socialists who run them are buying into every ‘woke’, Marxist talking point on crime and punishment...and implementing ideas that these Marxist organizations never would have thought they’d be dumb enough to go for.
Things like-defunding the police. Catch and release for even the worst criminals...with ‘no bail’ policies. Opening the doors of the city and county jails and considering everything short of murder to be a ‘minor crime’ that doesn’t require incarceration.
This is ruining America’s biggest cities.
You might have heard that-in Atlanta- a portion of that city is looking to break free and form its own municipality with its own police department. This is because Atlanta’s leaders and pd have the city a violent hellhole again.
Democrats destroy everything. That’s why we’ve got a huge chunk of eastern Oregon looking to become part of Idaho...and rid themselves of the lefties in Portland and Eugene.
It’s why a chunk of southern Illinois wants to become part of Indiana. Because democrats control the big cities, and the state capitols in those states, and are destroying the state.
And talk about blind to their own destruction!
I have read two stories on lefty blogs this week that took this position: gee, we hope this spike in violent crime doesn’t derail efforts to ‘re-imagine’ policing and decriminalization’.
And the premise of both articles was- no kidding- none of this is the democrat’s fault. None of this is the fault of their efforts to make cops the bad guys and shut down police departments.
None of it was the fault of the lefty prosecutors and judges who are refusing to lock anyone up under their noble ‘decriminalization’ effort.
These lefty pundits sincerely believed that this current spike in lawlessness and violent crime had nothing to do with their ‘defund’ and ‘DE incarcerate’ efforts....
And gee, what an unfortunate time to have a totally unrelated spike in crime happen.
The left is-actually going to try- to insist that one has nothing to do with the other.
This is like Joe Biden opening the border and then having his team insist that it’s got nothing to do with the flood of illegal crossings that immediately turned on like a fire hose.
They are going way, way out of their way, intellectually, to not see the “cause and effect’ here. The causation.
Here’s another grim reality: their war on cops has led to an eleven percent increase in the number of officer deaths, year to year, 2020 to now.
In 2020? It was a rise in traffic deaths, and a shooting deaths, of officers.
But the activist left refuses to take responsibility.
In fact- the Biden white house is getting so concerned that they and their party are going to be blamed for this spike in all categories of crime-but in particular- spike in murders and violent crime-
That apparently, ole stumbly Joe is going to hold a press event today in which he reveals a new crime prevention strategy that his team has dreamt up.
Folks- truth be told-the feds can’t do much about local crime. That’s up to the city leaders and law enforcers. About the best thing the feds can do is- provide money.
But....I’m sure we’ll get a bunch of bureaucratic mumbo jumbo today suggesting that Biden’s DOJ is going to address the spike in local crime, with fixes that amount to nothing.
One pundit suggested it’s something they couldn’t have predicted.
What?
We’ve been talking about the violent riots and how BLM and antifa dogma has democrats leading America’s largest cities vilifying police and cutting budgets.
One “expert” even says, ‘there’s a danger in overreacting’.
You can ‘overreact?’ to a massive spike in murders and violent crime?
What?
Talk about being in deep denial. Holy cow.
One group of morons is -certain- that this spike in crime-across the board- has nothing to do with their war against cops and against criminals doing prison time...
And another group of them says, “let’s not overreact to the carnage in the streets.”
Who are these people?
And why would anyone elect them or appoint them to positions of power?
Be ready for their new narrative about how the conservatives are creating a ‘false causation’ here. This raging crime isn’t due to abandoning and defunding policing and prosecution.
No. Just coincidence.
