The new normal looks a lot like the old normal

Memorial Day 2020 is in the books. And, for many people in southeast Wisconsin, it looked like Memorial Day 2019, and Memorial Days for years before that.

Parks were open. Beaches were crowded. Bars, the ones that were open, had big crowds.

Those are all good things.

During the worst of the coronavirus outbreak there was a line about 'the new normal.' The fear was that businesses would never reopen, people would never venture out, that masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizer will be the way of the future.

This Memorial Day weekend showed that fear was overblown. Yes, there are masks. Sure, people are socially distancing. But the fear of the virus is fading. People are heading back out, they are shopping, and eating, and going places. And they will do more shopping, and eating, and going out as more things open up.

The new normal will look a lot like the old normal. And that's a good thing.
