Local short film to be screened at International Film Festival

Southeast Wisconsin filmmaker Jim DeKoch’s latest film “I’m Taking You Home” will be screened at the Niagara Falls International Film Festival, Sept 26-29.

The film is a tribute to Jim’s mother, whose warm and open heart beat almost 5-billion times in her 92 years. Through a series of flashbacks, Jim recounts key moments that would shape the destiny of his mother's life.

"I was not at the hospital the day my Mother died. My father called me at about 11:00 am, crying, and said, "Jimmy I held Mom's hand until her last heart beat." Dazed, I left a meeting, sat in my car in a parking lot trying to make sense of the whole thing. I opened the calculator app on my phone and tallied the approximate number of times a heart would beat in 92 years. 5 billion is what came up on the screen. I went home, pick up my guitar and wrote this song. I'm Taking You Home, is my second film. Making this film had a profound affect on me. I made it to honor the life of my Mother. But in doing so, I figured out I was making the film to manage my grief. Faith is a very individual thing. I don’t think we really know the answers to all of our questions until we get there ourselves." - Jim De Koch
