What? You can't send children through the mail?

 I had heard about this years ago and stumbled across the attached story that explains that at one time, yes, the Postal Service really did allow people to...literally...mail children. It wasn't something that happened every day, but it DID happen much more often than you can imagine, especially when it was cheaper to buy postage than a railroad ticket! It makes for a fascinating read! Just a few more stamps, and it's off to Grandma's!
