Do as MSNBC Says, Not as MSNBC Does

MSNBC personalities are constantly railing against the wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes and constantly insinuating that President Trump has not been, but according to Heat Street, it seems that some of MSNBC’s personalities need to pay their own fair share.

According to a report by Heat Street, The Reverend Al Sharpton still owes $1.5 million in state and federal taxes plus interest and penalties after years of unfiled returns that led to a whopping $4.5 million in outstanding tax liens two years ago.

Chris Matthews, one of MSNBC’s biggest stars and biggest advocates for higher taxes on the rich, had a $4,000 tax lien against him in his home state of Maryland last summer.

The state of New York filed a tax lien against MSNBC’s rising star Joy Ann Reid for about $5,000 in 2015.

MSNBC daytime anchor Craig Melvin frequently calls for the wealthy to pay more in taxes, but last January, the state of New York filed a $2,500 tax lien against him for failure to pay back taxes, which he didn’t pay until the end of 2016.  Melvin has a long history of tax and debt problems, with a $3,300 tax warrant against him in South Carolina in 2010, and a court action from Discover bank five years earlier over $3,200 in debt.

NBC White House correspondent and frequent MSNBC contributor Kristin Welker took years to pay off $6,700 in tax liens from California.

Two former high-profile MSNBC hosts also railed against the wealthy avoiding taxes while avoiding taxes themselves.

Melissa Harris-Perry faced a $70,000 federal tax lien two years ago that she paid off in 2016, while Heat Street reports that "the IRS filed two separate tax liens against [Toure Neblett] for more than $257,000, covering the years from 2008-2012."

It’s not known whether he ever paid them off.
