One of the things that I don’t think is being understood or emphasized enough-when it comes to Zoran Mamdani’s primary win in the NY mayor’s race-
Is that his win is just an extension of the problems that the democrat party has been having since the Biden era.
Mamdani’s win in that deep blue area- is just a reflection that -at its ‘hardest core’- today’s democrat party has become a socialist, America-hating, intersectionality-loving, ‘globalize the intifada’ sort of party.
And I’m not kidding, here. The exit polling shows that -despite running on a laundry list of ‘govt freebees and new taxes on the rich-Mamdani didn’t win by getting the votes of the lower class or working-class NY voters...or minorities.
They show that his leftist, pro-Palestine, socialism-for-all schtick worked best to draw in white elites and female, college-educated, Karen’s and Gen-Zers who are looking for something new to ‘believe in’ to make them feel better, emotionally.
Folks-those are the same groups of people that Kamala Harris won-and lost- in November: trump took the working class, the lower- and middle-class voters. Minority voters...etc.
If i was JD Vance or any republican incumbent looking to keep their seats in 2026 and 28-i’d be thrilled at this news: the democrat party leaders are still dumb enough to think that they can win with their ‘ever shrinking’ pool of supporters and voters.
Great.
And hey-Kamala Harris didn’t even run on some of the most ‘socialist’ and ‘extreme’ ideas that this group of pre-eminent leftists are insisting they are going to run on in 2026.
This Mamdani win has the young socialists and Bernie bros energized, again, and believing that his win ‘validates’ their believe that the real problem with today’s democrat party is that it’s not-socialist-enough. It’s woke and bullying-enough.
And so, they’re only going to double down on this.
When James Carville is characterizing Mamdani’s win as...quote...a potentially damaging event... Democrats should be worried.
Carville’s take is: every other democrat who runs for office in 2026, now, is going to have to answer questions about this idiot and asked if they agree with his moronic platform. Freebees for all. The government run grocery stores. Should Benjamin Netanyahu be arrested if he sets foot in America. Should the intifada be globalized...etc.
Carville said- all the nominees in areas that aren’t ‘deep blue’ have a problem now.He said, look at our candidates in Virginia and New Jersey-where republicans believe they have winnable races this year and next: every democrat is going to be asked these questions.
But he doesn’t only mean ‘conservatives and republicans’ are going to ask them these questions. He means- if there’s an intraparty brawl over policies, platforms, and the path of the party...these democrat candidates are going to be hounded with these questions-by activist democrats in the media. By other primary candidates. Etc.
2026 democrat primaries could very quickly turn into a litmus test on: are you leftist enough? And that will push all their candidates further to the left- potentially leading to a bunch of them being unable to pivot back toward the center in time to win the general election.
And look- I know democrats in the upper Midwest here have always been further left on the ideological spectrum than democrats in the south and west-but- things like ‘govt run grocery stores’, no prisons, replacing police officers with conflict counselors, free transit services due to raised taxes... Are not going to fly here. Even most Wisconsin and Michigan democrats aren’t going to go for that sort of nonsense agenda.
Vox- the left-wing news site-says it’s already happening-
These vox analysts conclude by saying something I’ve said hundreds of times on this show: you cannot settle any of these arguments based on Tuesday’s returns. There were in a small primary race- in the middle of June in an off, off year. In a screaming blue area.
It's foolish to try to form any great ‘takeaways’ to then ‘inform’ the party or its candidates on what their 2026 platform should be.
I’ve said this after every ‘special election’ -when the left-wing media and the pundits and ‘smart people’ leap to try to draw grand conclusions from the results.
It’s a fool’s game.
I agree with the take that: hey, Mamdani’s young, good looking, charismatic, and something ‘new’ to voters who are tired of looking at Chuck Schumer and Maxine Waters. He was also ‘all over’ doing every bit of media and social media he could...because he can talk and has a talent for effortlessly spewing his line of falsehoods and socialist ‘false promises’.
That- as much as anything else-was Kamala Harris’s great failing.
Neither she nor jazz hands could answer even a simple question in a convincing way.The individual traits and talents of the candidate-do- matter. And always have.
But- back to my main point here: Mamdani’s win is really just an extension of the problems and intraparty fights that the democrat party has been having since Hillary lost and the Bernie bros rushed into grab the reins of the party.
His primary victory doesn’t represent ‘a clearer path forward’ for the party.
It represents a growing and disqualifying divide between America’s traditional, old school, establishment democrats- and the socialists who rushed in to try to take over their party tent when Hillary lost.
Meanwhile- the slow erosion of America’s minority and working classes...continues.
I’ve been saying it for two days- and I’ll say it again: if traditional and moderate democrats are going to put up-any-sort of fight for the soul of their party.... They must start doing it now. Today. Every traditionally liberal or moderate democrat in New York and across the country should be organizing to get behind eric Adams and defeat Zohran Mamdani and stop on this latest ‘flare up’ of democratic socialism.
I reminded people yesterday: these screaming socialists won their seats on 2018...and added a few in 2020...but have had two losing election cycles since-as the American people have rejected their nonsense- even- in most traditionally democrat areas.
And so- Mamdani’s win is being seen as a resurgence of fortunes...and the hope for resumed wins- with another expansion of socialist lawmakers in dc and in our state houses.
The best way to snuff this out-is to keep dealing the ‘democrat socialists of America’ loss after loss after loss...and push them back onto the democrat fringes.
But the decent and more reasonable democrats need to start doing that now. Today. With every new Zohran Mamdani, their brand starts to look more like a hammer and sickle. More socialist and communistic.
Very importantly. These candidates and their donors-are not- representing the groups of people who they claim they are representing.
They -really are- classic socialists and communists- appealing to the rich elites- and hoping to take power and control over the rest of us- permanently.
Real clear politics broke down the donor lists-and found that Mamdani’s money and support came-very heavily-from the most exclusive parts of New York city and New York state.
They say: Mamdani’s money came from the same affluent zip codes ...and the same ‘high dollar’ donors who have been fueling today’s democrat party. Those who fueled the 2020 primary race-in which every single one of the 24 other primary candidates ran to the -left- of Bernie Sanders...trying to ‘out socialist’ each other.
Only Biden’s team was smart enough to run him as a moderate and then spring big govt socialist-style programs on us after they got into the office.
But these are candidates-serving and servicing-their most major donors. They aren’t really speaking for the masses or being backed by the masses.
As we move forward-remember: Zohran Mamdani’s win is the latest ‘bad news’ for the democrat party. Not the latest ‘good news’.
