Continuing the Trump/Ryan tax cuts would be a huge win for America

Jay Weber Show transcript 5-6-25

Here are some numbers that aren’t surprising-but are encouraging- as the republicans in the house and senate craft this massive reconciliation bill that’s expected to have all sorts of Trump and GOP priorities in it-including tax cuts.

The most significant part of this entire bill is the tax cut portion of it. We’ve talked about how important it is for congress to extend the Trump/Ryan tax cuts of 2017....and keep the federal government from increasing nearly everyone’s taxes by somewhere between a thousand and 25-hundred dollars each year......if those 2017 tax cuts were to expire.

We-cannot- have that. Republicans must get this done.

And let’s not forget: if Kamala Harris would have won in November- we wouldn’t be having this conversation. The Biden regime was talking about how we needed to ....’needed to’.... let those trump tax cuts expire...if he won a second term. Kamala’s team would have done the same.

If a democrat was in the white house right now-and/or- if the dems were in control of congress right now- I can guarantee you that your federal income taxes would have been going up by at least a grand at the end of the year.

Instead-Trump and republicans won, and we have a chance to divert our path away from this ‘tax cliff’. Every single GOP member in congress knows how important it is to get this done-

From the squishiest ‘squish’...like Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins...to the most difficult conservative or libertarian...like Rand Paul...they all know they need to get this done.

Translation: if republicans even want to have a chance at keeping control of congress next fall- they need to -by God- make the Trump/Ryan tax cuts permanent.

It’s also good to see how many Americans clearly ‘get this’.... given how much misinformation and gaslighting the democrats have done with these tax cuts over the last 6 years.  The dems have relentlessly characterized those tax cuts as ‘tax cuts for the rich’...when in truth....the rich were the one group who -didn’t- see their taxes cut under that 2017 tax bill. 90 percent of the country’s workers saw a significant tax reduction that congress and trump now need to preserve...but the so-called rich. The top earners. Did-not-get a Trump/Ryan tax cut.

And so, the democrats could not have lied ‘more’ about this, over the last six years, if they’d tried.

But-these numbers suggest that many Americans ‘get this’ anyway. They know who gets screwed if republicans aren’t successful here.

People get it.

The poll proves that extending the 2017 tax cuts is a clear political winner...and if republicans even want a chance to hold their current majorities after next fall’s elections-they need to get this tax package passed.

I was talking with Jeff Kowal yesterday, the retirement and market guy here on WISN, and Jeff was saying: if the republicans do ‘nothing more’ than preserve the Trump/Ryan tax cuts in this bill. That will provide important stability to business owners and investors.

If they can just verify the status quo-for us- it will be a good boost to the markets. Give us some certainty.

And Jeff’s prediction was: if they can manage to include a lot of these other things trump wants...like no taxes on social security...no taxes on tips...bigger business write-offs....

Kowall says.... that all represents more money in people’s pockets....and the markets will really get a huge boost. And I agree.

This reconciliation bill simply must get done. And i think it will-because it’s a rare instance in which -every republican in Washington knows it needs to get done.

They’re all going to argue and wrangle for their own individual things...but when the final votes come around...we aren’t likely to see a group of grandstanding holdouts refusing to vote for the bill...because they all understand it’s political suicide not to ‘get it done’ for the American people.

And boy-are the democrats going to look even more useless and foolish, at that point, aren’t they?

I was talking yesterday, again, about how all they can seem to do is lie and scare people when it comes to this reconciliation bill-because in truth? - it’s got all sorts of great things in it.

It’ll bring down energy prices. It’ll stabilize the border and fund the deportation process for years. It’ll provide numerous payoffs and popular political promises...

And so...all the dems can do is ‘lie about it’.

They’ve been trying to scare people for months about cuts to social security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Every part of it- is a lie.

To anyone paying attention: trump has been promising this bill will not include any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or social security. Period.

The Trump white house put out his budget priorities Friday-and no cuts to entitlements were present.

President trump has said over and over again- they will not cut entitlements...but.... the Dems lie and gaslight.

The only mention of any changes to any of those programs is when it comes to Medicaid. Republicans need to slow the growth of Medicaid- because it is on a completely unsustainable path. But ‘slowing its expansion’ is not ‘cutting’.

As I emphasized yesterday: all scare tactics and political spin aside- Medicaid cannot continue to grow and exist at its current rate.

Greg- gave me that congressman from yesterday, again, because he-as a member of the house budget writing committee-had such a good explanation of it. The unsustainable path Medicaid is on...because both Obama and Biden used Obamacare-and then covid- as reasons to add tens of millions of Americans onto the Medicaid rolls who don’t belong there.

That is the truth of how Obama, Biden and the left have destroyed Medicaid. There are now more Americans on it who ‘don’t need it’.... than ‘do need it’...based on their income.

Moreover- 60 percent of the able-bodied people who are getting it?- aren’t working?

Come on.Then why are the rest of us paying for their health care?

This is a completely screwed up program-thanks to the last two democrat presidents...and at the very least...today’s republicans need to be the adults....and put it on a more sustainable path.

Again, by slowing its growth. Not by making any cuts.

The Wall St Journal editors are also concerned that the leftist media and the democrat gaslighting on this are going to cause republicans to ‘go soft’

Republicans need to get this Medicaid reform done, too, in this reconciliation bill.

And hey-Trump and his team-if you notice- are doing. Are going- the ‘tough and responsible stuff’ right now.

They-are-being the adults...and saying....no more game playing on our college campuses and with Dei...no more boys in girls’ sports...

As of today-the trump team is saying: we start collecting on student loans again, so Americans who owe us money- expect to get a letter.

Trump and his team-are- taking positions on all sorts of things that might be unpopular to certain groups of voters-

And they are simply because it’s the right thing to do and it’s the time to ‘be adults.

The very least their republican colleagues in congress can do- is help them shore up Medicaid and the 2017 tax cuts.

This is actually ‘the least’ this batch of GOP congressman can do for the country, and for the trump agenda. They’ve got to get it done.
