So- with all the talk of Trump and the republicans finally stepping up to really fight the left and fight the entrenched government machine that often treats conservative Americans so unfairly-
After all that talk- five republican senators who are allegedly all ‘MAGA’ and ‘mavericky’ really dropped the ball and caused republicans to commit a ridiculous ‘unforced error’ on Monday ….and it’s got Florida governor Ron DeSantis and others- hot.
What happened is: Senate Leader Chuck Schumer scheduled a final confirmation vote for one of Joe Biden’s left-wing appeals court judges-and they ‘no showed’. If they’d shown up, this judge could have been blocked from a lifetime appoint.
It was a major screw up-and DeSantis and others in that appeals court jurisdiction are right to be furious.
This isn’t even a less powerful ‘lower court’ judge. This was a very important appeals court position that was open-
And the man Biden nominated for the position is a particularly hyper partisan judge. Five GOP senators decided to just ignore the vote-
And it’s either irony or arrogance-that all of them are top supporters of Donald Trump’s.
They all ignored the vote. And i can tell you why: because, since election day, they have been far more interested in celebrating with-and ingratiating themselves to- trump....that they have quickly forgotten about their commitments in the senate.
This is BS people. Especially when -if it was a different set of senators-you know that JD Vance and Marco Rubio and Daines and Hagerty-would be out in front of the cameras-blasting those other senators.
These guys bleeped up. And there’s no excuse.
This judge...Embry Kidd...is a terrible leftist partisan...and his lifetime appointment was confirmed Monday night on a 49-45 vote. You can do the math: add five ‘no votes’ from these five slackers...and he would have been shot down...and the position could have been held open for a trump appointee.
And yes, that’s all-but certain, because Biden and his team couldn’t have scrambled around, nominated someone else, and gotten that person thru the confirmation process in the short time they have left.
It's bad enough that these five didn’t show up to block the leftist’s confirmation-but it’s even worse than-if they had-Donald Trump would have given the eleventh circuit states- a conservative justice in that lifetime position, instead.
Folks-even West Virginia senator -and democrat- joe Manchin voted against Kidd. But these other five were too ‘into themselves’ and ‘celebrating trump’ to show up.
Folks-Florida is in the eleventh circuit, which is why Ron DeSantis was so hot over this. Marco Rubio is a Florida senator! And the clown doesn’t show for the vote?
Folks-Joe Manchin has even said that he will not vote for any more lame-duck judicial appointments that the republicans don’t also support.
This is huge, numerically huge when it comes to the remaining judicial openings: Schumer is going to try to ram as many of them thru as possible-and yes- the dems have had a one vote majority in the senate-
But if Manchin is a ‘no’ and votes along with the republicans on the worst nominees- they can actually stop a bunch of leftist judges getting lifetime appointments at the last minute-
But these clowns have got to show up!
I know that most listeners don’t know who Bill Haggerty and Steve Daines are-but they are senators who talk a tough game-and in general- walk the walk...
But you all know who JD Vance and Marco Rubio are: Vance and Rubio blow this?
It’s unimaginable given what we’ve all just gone thru.
This was pathetic.
So much so-that in what i can only assume was a CYA move to save these clowns from public embarrassment-
All the sudden on Tuesday, the new GOP leader in the senate had a strategy to slow down the remaining nominations.
This looked to me like John Thune trying to provide these five distracted dopes at Mar-a-Lago some cover
The way this normally works is that confirmation recommendations that come out of the committees are just passed by voice vote and unanimous consent....just to move the process along.
Bottom line: republicans are going to stop doing that and will try to slow down the process as much as possible.
Still-they cannot do anything to block the actual confirmation vote in the senate- which is why Schumer will still get most of these lefty judges seated-and why its’ important for every single republican senator to be present when those final votes are taken-
They are very likely going to be able to knock some of these down. So where is Vance, Rubio, etc?
There’s no reason they can’t get back to Washington DC for important votes.
I think there are about two dozen judicial openings that Schumer wants to fill before the change of power. He just moved twelve of them along and set them up for confirmation votes soon.
And this is about the only thing left for democrats and their activists to claim as a ‘win’ if Schumer can get them done.
The AP and other news outlets have been reporting that the lefty activist groups-like demand justice-have been insisting that Schumer at least ‘get this right’.
We lost an election you assured us we were going to win. So at least get this right. At least salvage this effort. Is the sentiment.
Schumer is vowing to get as many done as he can-and Dick Durbin is reminding everyone that-at the end of the first Trump term- democrats agreed to vote on a bundled-up package of twelve final judicial confirmations for Trump.....and they did.
But- i don’t see a Trumpeter GOP agreeing to go along with some last minute or late-night agreement with Schumer to do the same.
In fact-I’d flag this as something to watch- as an indication of whether senate republicans are really going to turn over a new leaf and start pushing back on the democrats....and being more forceful on behalf of the conservative cause- or not.
If-after all this talk of ‘fight, fight, fight’. Never relent.... if these GOP senators agree to bundle up Biden’s last minute judicial nominees and rubber stamp them all at the end-
Well-it’s a good indication that there isn’t much that’s going to change.
Also-if these five ‘super-Maga’ idiots who missed Monday’s vote aren’t going to show up to do their jobs and try to block these appointments between now and mid-January-
I’d suggest that that’s another indication that these people surrounding trump are still just blowing smoke-and that they are not!- genuinely interested in fighting and winning.
I cannot tell you how disappointing it is to see JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Steve Daines, Bill Haggerty, and Mike Braun blow this lay-up on Monday.
These are the guys who are-not only supposed to help Donald Trump ‘lead the charge’ and drain the swamp- but they are also the guys who are supposed to inherit the mission after trump’s second term is over, right?
And instead of shooting down terrible liberal judges, they’re out.... getting ice cream or sitting in the bar at Mar a Lago?
Come on.
