It's the economy stupid

Jay Weber Show transcript 10-29-24

In the waning days of a tight election-everything is politics-

And for at least a year, we have been told the economy and inflation are still the number one issue for voters- so is that still the case? Or have most Americans gotten used to ‘living in’ this new Biden/Harris era of shockingly high prices on everything you buy and on every ‘service’ you use?

Are people getting used to a ‘new normal’ that will have them focusing their vote ‘less’ on the economy than we think they will?

The answer is: NO! People aren’t getting used to this as the new normal...and they are still PO’d.

A report came out yesterday that says the lines at the food banks have been growing longer this fall-across the country- and especially in some of the most important swing states- like here in Wisconsin.

STORY FROM NBC

In the relatively affluent Milwaukee suburbs of Waukesha County, Wisconsin, Rochelle Gamauf said each week she is seeing new faces at her food pantry, Friends With Food, which she started during the pandemic.

The organization has gone from giving out around 420,000 pounds of food in 2022 to over a million pounds in 2023. On a recent week in September, nearly 400 families came through the door, 48 of whom were coming for the first time — a 50% increase in new families compared to last year, she said.

“I’m seeing people that have never visited a food pantry in their life,” Gamauf said. “It’s not just the cost of food increasing, it’s the increase across the board — it’s their electric bill going up, their rent going up, all their basic needs, like insurance, have increased.”

I love the report’s attempt to direct the blame-away from- the Biden/Harris economy. He or she just-had ta- work in there- that wages have risen and there are low unemployment rates.

Folks- under Joe Biden – any raises or wage increases that Americans received-have not- kept up with the runaway rate of inflation and the much higher cost of living-post-trump-

And as for the low unemployment-for over a year now-we’ve been seeing monthly jobs numbers that suggest nearly all the newly created jobs are part time- low wage- and being taken by illegal aliens.

Oh-and government are adding jobs. But as for most Americans finding a good jobs market if they’ve recently been laid off?

No. That’s a falsehood, too.

And it’s interesting that -for three years now-these food bank operators say America has been during an increasing hunger crisis-but it hasn’t been reported anywhere. Isn’t that interesting?

These organizers in all three states that talked to NBC- WI, MI, and Penn- all say that their food banks are not meeting demand. Some of them feel as if they are failing the community, because it’s such a time of high demand, and yet their costs are so high, and the normal donations aren’t meeting demand.

So-this is a ‘truer’ snapshot of Biden and Harris’ America- as voters go off to vote.

The food pantries have seen 30 to 50 percent increases in their traffic over the Biden years. So, do you think these are voters who have just ‘gotten used to this as the new normal’?

Not a chance.

Are they still PO’d about the ‘cost of living’ under democrat control is crushing them?

You bet.

And the reality is equally dire in the restaurant business. The Wall St Journal just had a long article on how many restaurants are sliding into bankruptcy and/ or are closing. Both the mom-and-pops, and the chain restaurants, are seeing closures and chapter eleven bankruptcy filings grow.

This is Biden’s America: where most Americans simply cannot afford to eat out as much as they used to during the pre-pandemic years. Before the years in which joe Biden and the democrats touched off genuinely awful and crushing 40-year high inflation that continues to increase prices on all goods and services-to this day.

Including the price of eating out.

Folks-when breakfast is ten bucks at McDonalds and 15 to 20 bucks at a sit-down restaurant- most people simply cannot afford to pay that.

If you are a family of four- and dad or mom must spend 80 or 90 bucks just to go for breakfast after church on a Sunday- when it cost about 40 bucks in trump era- my God- that’s a dramatic change in pricing-

Which is going to require a dramatic change in lifestyle. I know my friends and family are eating out less-and we all make decent livings.

There’s just a point at which- 30 bucks for a simple pasta dish isn’t worth it. Right?

The cost of eating outside the home during the Biden/Harris years has-literally-become cost prohibitive for many lower- and middle-income Americans-

And it has become ‘just not worth it’ for a large number of the rest of us. Hasn’t it?

I’m not bragging, but I’m someone who could afford the 30 dollar pasta dish and the 90 dollar steak and the 8 dollar glass of wine if I wanted it....but...there’s a point at which the experience -especially the experience of ‘finer dining’- gets tainted by the prices you are paying.

Genuinely: I’m paying 35 dollars for a scoop of pasta with three shrimp on it- in a shallow bowl?I don’t care how great it tastes- it’s not worth it.

This is a good time to bring up another beef related to dining out: if the cost of the meal has skyrocketed as much as it has under Biden and the dems- should we really still be made to pay a 20 percent tip on it?

Sincerely.

I’m not trying to take money out of the pockets of waiters and waitresses.... but.... for heaven’s sake. If this breakfast for 4 is now 80 bucks...i have to toss another 16 or 20 bucks on top of that because the waitress came to the table three times?

Wow.

With these prices- going back to ten percent as a fair percentage of tip would at least give consumers some sort of break.

I was out recently with a small group for a dinner of 35 dollar pasta dishes and 8 dollar drinks...and the bill came to about 250 bucks. The lovely people i was with insisted on picking up the tab.  Wonderful. That’s’ very generous.

And so- i went to my normal ‘go to’ move-and asked-may i leave the tip?

Yes-they said. That’d be about 50 bucks.

Alright- I left 50 bucks without thinking too much about it-and then on the ride home realized: in the Biden/Harris economy...i just paid 50 bucks for a ‘free’ meal. Imagine: under today’s democrats-even the cost of a ‘free meal’ has risen dramatically.

The fact that most consumers have reached their breaking point under this democrat regime is-very real. Even low-cost retailers are announcing major store closings- either due to low sales- or rampant theft.

Biden and the democrats dumped all sorts of ‘free money’ and foolish policies like ‘delays on rent payments’ early in their term. That had people feeling like they could go out and spend again- but that was short lived- after Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to pass the bill that touched off 40 year high-9 percent- inflation.

And you know the rest.

Retail businesses are struggling. Restaurants are struggling. Families are struggling. And a 20 percent tip on an inflation priced meal....is really starting to hack me off!!!

It strikes me that Kamala Harris has ads running that insist- she- is the one who understands middle class America. She’s the one ‘working for you’.... When really...she’s the candidate who is most out of touch with you.

Folks-she- is the woman who cast the tie-breaking vote that rammed thru the two-trillion-dollar spending bill that immediately touched off this inflation and soured the economy as it was roaring back to life coming out of covid lockdowns.

Kamala Harris. Very directly. Screwed you over with that tie-breaking vote in 2021.  And now she wants to pretend she had nothing to do with it-and pretend she could run a better economy than Donald trump.

I call it an ’opportunity economy’.

Oh, shut up.

She has no idea what an ‘opportunity economy’ really means...just as Joe Biden never had any clue what a ‘bottom up and middle out’ economy was. That was the ridiculous phrase that he used as he and Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer went about destroying the strong economy that they inherited coming out of the trump years.

You should remember me vividly-at the time-saying: all Biden and the dems need to do is-nothing. Just show some restraint.

Restrain your desperate need for government intervention into every situation...and just do nothing. Let the private sector lead the economic recovery-which was already on a strong path upward.

Nope. They had to tamper and bleep it up.

They even went against the best advice of every economist and ‘expert’ out of the Obama regime. Economists on their own side of the aisle said: don’t pass this idiotic ‘American recovery act’. It is unnecessary spending. Very excessive spending. That is going to touch off runaway inflation.

Still, they didn’t listen. They passed the bill on Kammy’s tie-breaking vote- and that’s exactly what happened: 40 year high, runaway inflation that-still-isn’t under control as we near the end of Biden’s presidency.

And hey-

Very few people are even talking about the new attacks on the American people, American businesses, and our finances that the Harris team is promising if she’s elected.

One of her absolute dumbest moves will be to-not-renew the Trump/Ryan individual tax cuts.

If Kamala Harris wins-we will all see- nearly every one of us in this audience- a hike in our federal income taxes....because Harris and the democrats insist on pretending that that bill was a ‘tax cut for the rich’ when it specifically-wasn’t.

people on the highest end of the income scale didn’t get the tax cut. But about 90 percent of Americans did-and it will be -your income taxes- that go up if Kamala Harris wins.

She’s also promising a significant hike in the corporate tax, again, which is equally moronic, and which also!  Falls onto you!!

Companies pass on their tax burdens to the consumers-and so- in no way-is a jump in the corporate tax-not- an additional tax on all of us as consumers-and on anyone who has a 401k or retirement savings accounts.

Any new tax that hobbles businesses and cuts their profits- affects- our- investment and retirement funds. Is. The little guy.

And so-this is an equally idiotic promise included in Kammy’s tax plans.

Any ‘proof’ voters need can already be found in how the democrats have completely fouled up the economy and destroyed our purchasing power by ballooning the cost of living on us-over the last four years.

Anyone who still thinks the democrats know how to run a better economy...after this last four years of Harris and Biden.....really is a dope.

So, you’ve got to ask yourself: can you really handle four more years of this?

Are you ready for even higher taxes if Kamala Harris wins?

Are you ready for-new? - multi-trillion-dollar spending bills that waste even more of our grandkid’s money on windmills and leftist fantasies-while gutting our standard of living now? Today?

Are you ready for another push toward government run health care? After all-Kamala Harris was a senate sponsor of Bernie sander’s socialized medicine scheme in 2017 and 18.

Are you ready for never-ending spending and so-called ‘govt help’ for childcare which will really only drive up the cost of child care even more-as the providers realize they can bill the federal government for most of it?

Are you ready for taxes on your -quote- unrealized- capital gains? Are you ready to be taxes on investments that only grew- on paper? Or only temporarily as part of a bull market?

Because that’s what’s coming if Kamala Harris and today’s left get their way.

Are you ready for federal housing controls and attempts to ram low-rent- tenement housing into your communities- because Kamala will pick up right where Obama left off on that soviet-style scheme.

Can you really handle four more years like the last four years? And worse?

Then get out and vote republican. No excuses. No sitting home because you think your less lazy ‘fellow Americans’ will handle this.

Plan and stop and vote. Either early or on election day. Especially you young people. Don’t rely on your parents and grandparents to save this country from tyranny and ruin-for you.

Use your vote and do your part to stop it.
