State GOP should counter Evers game playing

Jay Weber Show transcript 8-9-23 7:40am

So... the policy wonks at Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce-the guys who get paid to read lawsuits and other court filings in close detail-

Written into the lawsuit that was filed last week- a day after Janet Protasiewicz was sworn in and the leftists took over the majority-

A paragraph that suggests: if the high court tosses out the current redistricting maps-that they should order all state senators who were elected in those districts in 2022- to be ‘invalid’ senators and must stand for re-election in the ‘newly fair’ districts that would be represented by the new maps the court put in place.

This is outrageous, of course, and it represents more cheating and cheaper gamesmanship from democrats- who can’t seem to win elections fairly.

As the WMC analyst who sent this to me suggests: clearly democrats think they will have an easier time getting elected in 2024, during a presidential primary and in newly redrawn districts- and so they have come up with a cheap attempt to retake the majority in the state senate-by suggesting to their left-wing accomplices on the supreme court- that they should declare all of the 2022 election results that democrats didn’t like-to be invalid.

If you don’t know- state senators are elected for four years-and every two years- half of the overall total are up for re-election: one election, it’s the senators in the odd numbered districts- the next election it’s the senators in the even numbered districts-

And so- here’s yet another way liberals are attempting to overturn lawful election results in Wisconsin, in order to cheat and game the system.

And look-even if the dems don’t like that 2022 election maps- those maps were passed by a duly elected state legislature-and they were confirmed by several court cases-including by decisions from both the state supreme court and the u-s supreme court.

Remember- the u-s supreme court shot down Gov Evers’ last minute attempt to redraw the maps as racially charged-

And so-these maps that these state senators were re-elected under- were the legal and valid ones at the time-and were even ‘stress-tested’ by both the state and federal courts-

And here are the leftists behind the new, ludicrous redistricting lawsuit suggesting to these four liberal hags who just took over most of the state supreme court -to go back and in masse invalidate election results.

That’s an outrageous suggestion...and should be rejected by the court- out of hand.

Instead, since these four justices are showing themselves to be so overtly hyper partisan- i can’t sit here today and say that they won’t do this.

I would like to believe that this suggestion is ‘a bridge too far’ for a Wisconsin supreme court justice-regardless of which side of the aisle they are sitting on that overturning valid election results is too crazy and extreme for them to ponder-

But i can’t do that- knowing what we know about the four women who are now sitting atop the supreme court and want to be calling all the shots.

They have already displayed how extremely biased and politically partisan they are.

So, we’ll have to watch this.

And I bring it to your attention because the journal/sentinel and other Wisconsin news outlets won’t.

Scott Manley of the WMC was on social media yesterday begging for more coverage- tweeting:

We already know the answer: because they are activists masquerading as journalists and would quietly love to see the supreme court liberals do this.

Then there’s the cheap political stunt that Governor Evers pulled yesterday: calling a special session of the state legislature and insisting that lawmakers needed to return to Madison to complete their work on the next two-year budget.

They have already completed their work. The budget has been passed. Gov Evers vetoed any tax cut for Wisconsin workers-rather than return a three or four billion dollar surplus to the taxpayers whose paychecks he took it from...

And there is no way that republican lawmakers should spent one penny of it on anything else. Robin Vos, Devon LeMahieu and the Wisconsin lawmakers should vow that every penny of this surplus is going to be returned to the taxpayers it was taken from-

And not now-and not ever-will it be used for more state spending.

Moreover- instead of returning to Madison as Evers has ordered-and then doing their thing of quickly gaveling in and gaveling out-  republicans should gather on that day-and

Re-pass just the tax cuts portion of the budget.

Instead of doing nothing-they should react to Evers’ cheap stunt by passing only the tax cuts that he vetoed-and put them back on his desk.

This would be the savvy way for Vos and LeMahieu to play this: tee up the 700 dollar tax cut that Evers took away from Wisconsin workers- again- and force him to veto it-again.

I wouldn’t make concessions that would make Evers more likely to sign it. I wouldn’t erase the tax cuts on upper-end earners that Evers and the dems want to portray as tax cuts for the rich-when they important tax cuts for Wisconsin’s business owners-

I would pass the exact same tax cut that Evers vetoed-and put it on his desk again. Force him to-in a very high-profile way- and with the stand-alone tax cut staring him in the face-

Force him to either sign it or veto it again.

Make it clear to even the ‘lowest’ of low-information voters in Wisconsin that Tony Evers is screwing you over and taking 500 to a thousand dollars of your money away from you. Again.

The republicans need to do more to make it clear what a scummy game player Evers is being, here.

Evers and his team think they can score political points by portraying the republicans as heartless people who are against free childcare or expanded family leave- republicans need to counter by exposing the false ‘needs’ that Evers is pointing to-

And how he and his team are denying two-million Wisconsin taxpayers a significant tax cut-even though the state government is taking too much money out of their paychecks.

And the j/s and Wisconsin state journal write stories that amount to democrat press releases, of course, which makes it more necessary for republicans to be more active and more properly frame the debate.

This is the thirteenth special session that gov Evers has called....and the declaration requires lawmakers to convene in that date-but it doesn’t force them to do any business-

And so- GOP lawmakers have made it a routine to simply gavel in and gavel out within seconds-as a big ‘screw you’ to Evers.

This time-they should spend a little more time- repass the tax cuts Evers vetoed-and then adjourn.

I’m fine with how robin Vos and Devon LeMahieu reacted to this- in general- but it frustrates me that they won’t force Evers to veto this tax cut over and repeatedly...And ensure all Wisconsin workers know how much Evers is

Evers wants the legislature to spend 340-million dollars to maintain a childcare program that was created by federal tax dollars and will run out next year because the feds refuse to continue to fund it.

Well-if Biden’s regime won’t keep funding it- Wisconsin taxpayers shouldn’t have the new and ‘forever’ burdens placed onto them.

This is how the leftists in dc love to do things: start new social welfare programs using federal tax dollars-and then pull those dollars a few years after the expanded govt programs are up and running. They love sticking state taxpayers with the new bills for their permanent expansions of government-that they create by offering only temporary money.

Wisconsin lawmakers have been smart enough to say ‘no’ to that.

And for the record- gov Evers could have used some of the billions of dollars that he received in federal covid money to ensure that this childcare program was funded into the future.

He didn’t. And so, he can’t claim it’s an important priority now.

Republicans are right to reject this- and should turn gov Evers’ cheap stunt back around on him-and re-pass the across-the-board tax cuts that they wanted to deliver us -that Evers vetoed.

Republicans should make a big-‘forever’ vow-when it comes to this surplus money: as long as we are in charge it will-never- be used for more state spending. By God- we are going to return it to the taxpayers in the form of an across-the-board tax relief of the sort we outlined in the budget. That is the only way this money will be used.
