I made this point on social media, yesterday, and it must be one that is both ‘apt’ and ‘unique’ because it got a lot of attention.
I was reading the j/s’s first story about the head-to-head race between Ron Johnson and Mandela Barnes- and yet again- Barnes is quoted doing something that I don’t know if I have ever seen done before in a political campaign.
Mandela Barnes is using-his parent’s work record- to suggest that he knows what it’s like to work hard for a living.
It’s a bizarre thing he’s doing, and I don’t know if he realizes he’s doing it. I assume he does.
But he’s going it because-he- Mandela Barnes- does not have a track record or a resume of ‘hard work’.
And I’m not trying to be inflammatory or insulting here-but the facts speak for themselves. Mandela Barnes’ resume- is first, being a vague ‘community organizer’, and then running for political office taking taxpayer money for very little work.
Folks, this is a man who ran around for the last four years-as lt governor- literally campaigning for the u-s senate-because there are no actual duties that go along with his current job.
And so-no. Mandela Barnes -does not- know what it is like to work hard. But it is a slam that he and his campaign clearly want to make on Ron Johnson, and so, Barnes is using-his parent’s work record- as evidence that he knows what hard work looks like.
And my point on twitter yesterday was-not only about how odd this is. But how…..um....Mandela...Ron Johnson is a self-made millionaire. Johnson busted his butt creating a manufacturing business in Oshkosh that he grew to be so successful that it literally made him a millionaire. And only then-after he had a lifelong career of long days, hard work, and responsibilities to employees-
Only then, did he choose to run for public office.
If Ron Johnson doesn’t know what hard work is-no one in America does.
I don’t care if Mandela’s dad worked third shift and his mom was a teacher and they worked hard, too. Good for them. All sorts of us in America work like hell to get ahead and carve out a comfortable standard of living -and comfortable retirement.
Good for them.
But- to use his parent’s resumes as evidence that-he? Mandela? Knows what hard work is?
Only ‘by proxy’. Correct?
Johnson lived it. Built something. Was responsible for creating other people’s paychecks and raising their standards of living as employees of his plastics factory.
What did Mandela Barnes do? Organize a black Friday protest Walmart?
Come on.
In fact-lets go thru this j/s piece a bit: the Milwaukee j/s has done its first piece on the race and-as you’d expect-it both promotes Mandela and smears Ron Johnson.
The story might exist solely for the headline. You know George Stanley and his editors could hardly wait to put this in print for Barnes and the left-wing dark money groups to use.
We’ve detailed on this show how every single. Attempt to smear senator Johnson with something he has said is an instance of his critics and left-wing reporters intentionally taking his comments out of context. Intentionally ‘misinterpreting’ them. Intentionally pretending to hear something that they didn’t hear.
This claim that Ron Johnson has said nutty things or is a bomb thrower is complete crap. Total bunk.
And yet- the democrat dark money groups and their leftist machine have spent at least two years and millions of dollars crafting this false ‘take’ on Johnson.
And so, of course Mandela Barnes plans to make it his main theme.
But who’s positions are extreme?
Mandela’s. After all-he’s the one who has been endorsed by Bernie Sanders, squats with unions, and AOC.
Folks-Barnes has the endorsements of three of the biggest socialist kooks in the country. And he’s running around vowing to be chuck Schumer’s 51st vote to push their radical agenda thru.
Which candidate is the radical kook?
Ah-
But here’s the ‘hard work’ theme that Barnes cannot rise to, himself.
And this-is-an instance of Mandela Barnes and the democrat party and their activists only having false hits and smear tactics. Barnes, himself, has no track record of success, and not a single accomplishment to really hang his hat on, despite his years hanging out in politics that bill Glauber wants to label ‘meteoric’.
He had a meteoric rise......to.... what end?
What has he done?
The Lt. Gov’s post has no duties, and aside from heading a bogus climate change task force for gov Evers for a few months...Barnes hasn’t done a thing with this job.
Instead, he has collected a weekly paycheck from state taxpayers as he has plotted and run for the US senate.
Mandela Barnes just wants to get to the next big paycheck. He doesn’t care about Wisconsin.
Ron Johnson has proven that he does-by giving up a bigger paycheck- to serve Wisconsin.
But this odd thing Barnes is doing- riding on his parents’ hard work- is more than just sort of goofy.
I see it as a tacit acknowledgement that Barnes-knows- he’s never worked hard. There’s some Freudian shizzle going on here...people.
And Senator Johnson can make them without being disrespectful or mean-and he does. He does in this article.
Meanwhile, everything that follows from Barnes sounds like a well-rehearsed, focus grouped, attack job: Ron Johnson’s just an out of touch millionaire who only cares about his buddies...
Really? Do they think that’s going to work in fall?
Especially coming from a guy with no resume who has been endorsed by every known radical in DC. Bernie, AOC, Squats with Unions?
And a guy who has endorsed ‘defunding the police’ and ‘abolishing ice’ in the past?
A guy who claims he’s not in favor of open borders and this radicalism-now-but has been campaigning for the last six months as the guy who is going to be Chuck Schumer’s 51st vote, and who will vote to end the filibuster so they can ram all of this left wing radicalism thru?
That? Is the candidate who knows how to represent Wisconsinites in Washington?
Good grief.
But- now that I have pointed it out- let’s see whether Barnes changes up this technique of trying to build his street cred by living off of his parent’s hard work.
They sound like lovely people. Great Americans and hard workers. But....their son is trying to suggest that he knows what hard work is.... but...only by watching his parents?
Did he ever pitch in? Did he ever work hard, himself? It seems to me that Barnes is being honest with himself- despite everything.
He’s not lying and saying that-he-was a hard worker, but he’s suggesting that he knows what hard work is- by proxy.
It’s the oddest thing.
