MTEA Offering 'Resisting White Supremacy' Course for Teachers

The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association is offering a controversial seminar in "resisting white supremacy" this April.

According to the union's website, the hour-an-a-half lecture on April 23rd is "a workshop to highlight ways educators can make their classrooms and schools sites of resistance to white supremacy" that will "explore the ideas and lessons from the newly published book by Rethinking Schools, Teaching for Black Lives."

The MTEA held an identical course in September.  Several teachers contacted News/Talk 1130 WISN in recent days to express concern about the radical nature of the course.

"Teachers and staff at my school are in an uproar over this vile class," one source said.

Milwaukee Public Schools declined to comment on the course.

"As this is not an MPS program we do not have comment," a Milwaukee Public Schools spokesman said in an email.
