Wisconsin Way Political Leader of the Year Award: State Senator Alberta Darling

By the time her current term representing the 8th Senate District ends, Senator Alberta Darling will have served 30 years in the state legislature. Sen. Darling entered public service with the intent of serving the interests of children…their protection, their education, and the enhancement of their quality-of-life. Among her activities outside the Senate chambers, are: Membership on the EdVest Board, co-founder of the Wisconsin Children’s Caucus, and membership on the Milwaukee Child Welfare Partnership Council. In the past, Alberta has served on the United Way Board, and on the boards of the Children’s Service Society of Milwaukee, and the YWCA. In government, Sen. Darling is the co-chair of the power Joint Finance Committee, and is one of the driving forces behind Wisconsin’s School Choice program. She is also a cancer-survivor, and the mother of two, and the grandmother of two more.
