Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir says she will not apologize for a campaign email depicting Senator Tammy Baldwin on 'Team Terrorists' with the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.
"Look, the fact of the matter is that Tammy Baldwin gets away with being a far-left extremist because no one calls her out on it," Vukmir told News/Talk 1130 WISN's Dan O'Donnell. "If I'm politically incorrect, I'm politically incorrect. To me it's ridiculous that she will not say how she will vote on Gina Haspel."
In the email sent out last week, Haspell--President Trump's nominee to be CIA Director--is depicted alongside Vukmir on "Team America." In the bottom half of the image, Baldwin is depicted alongside 9/11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed on "Team Terrorists.
Mohammed made news last week when he requested to testify during Haspel's Senate confirmation hearing about the use of waterboarding on terror suspects.
"Tammy Baldwin and her party are opposing this qualified woman and instead seem more concerned about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's...treatment in prison," Vukmir told O'Donnell. "Tammy Baldwin is showing how far and left extreme she is on a regular basis and no one calls her out on it. I'm calling her out on it. Come on, Dan, you know how campaigns operate and you have to make a point. I'm making a point about Tammy Baldwin being absent, and that is her record."
"Was [the 'Team Terrorists' image] the right way to do that?" O'Donnell asked.
"Political correctness be damned, we need fighters," Vukmir responded. "We need more people who are going to stand up and call her out, take a position, and lead. I am typically not somebody who gets mealy-mouthed. I don't mince words and I'm sorry if people have hurt feelings by this, but Tammy Baldwin is part of that party that believes we shouldn't say anything negative."
