Wisconsin Way Patriot Award: Fisher House of Wisconsin
Fisher House of Wisconsin is more than just a structure; it is concept and a commitment to serve the families of the courageous veterans being treated at the Zablocki VA Medical Center at Wood, WI. The Fisher House concept is to offer the families of veterans both shelter and support during the time of a veteran’s hospital stay. This alleviates the burdens of long distance travel and lodging expenses, and frees-up families to focus on helping their loved one heal. Fisher House Wisconsin stands on the Zablokci VA grounds. It opened in April, 2016, and is one of a network of 72 Fisher Houses located in the US, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Fisher House Wisconsin has 16 suites of various sizes, and shared spaces of a kitchen area, dining room, living room, family room, and a large patio and yard. Accepting the Wisconsin Way Award tonight is President of Fisher House Wisconsin, Andrew Roberts. Andrew is a retired Lt. Col. In the US Air Force, and is Exec. Program Manager at GE Healthcare.
