What are we celebrating on Juneteenth?

Our newest federal holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States.

That is a good thing. We should celebrate.

But this first Juneteenth celebration didn’t feel like we were celebrating the end of the era of human bondage.

It feels as if the Left and their enablers in the big newsrooms were, instead, celebrating one more reason to divide this country based on race.

RedState had a piece over the weekend.

Juneteenth is a holiday intended to celebrate the end of slavery in the Confederate states. It has been celebrated by the black community and other Americans for almost 150 years. (See: Juneteenth Is a Perfect Opportunity to Weave All the Threads Into the Fabric of America’s Tapestry)

So, it comes as no surprise the leftists decided to use this year’s Juneteenth celebration to continue promoting their so-called progressive agenda. Several different activist media outlets used the occasion to convince people to support the Democrats’ federal, voting rights legislation.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid, who sorta disapproves of sexual harassment depending on who’s doing it, tweeted: “Happy Juneteenth!!! — but only to those who believe everyone; Black, white brown, Asian or indigenous, has the right to vote, and that the results of an election should be respected. The rest of y’all should just consider today Saturday. Looking at you, @GOP. Be blessed.”

The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Barker tweeted a news story titled: “Baltimoreans celebrate Juneteenth — but also ask, ‘What happened to voting rights? What happened to policing?’”

CNN posted a tweet accusing the Republican Party of passing “discriminatory voting bills.”

You get the idea.

Juneteenth, which should be a reason for all Americans to celebrate, is being presented as another racial grievance.

We cannot come together as a country and live together if we continue to take every opportunity to push each other apart.
