Despite all the wonderful, genuinely ‘pro-America’ things that are in the big, beautiful reconciliation bill that republicans passed around the fourth of July-
The popularity polling on it sits at about 50/50.
This is because of the very effective campaign of lying and gaslighting that the democrats launched against it- for months-before it was passed.
Their lies about how the bill ‘takes away health care for millions...etc... were particularly successful and insidious. All the bill does is put work requirement on Medicaid for able bodied adults who- shouldn’t even be eligible-for Medicaid in the first place.
None-the-less, leftist scare tactics have always worked- way too well- on the ignorant masses, and so ‘here we are’: with what should be a very popular series of wins for president trump and republicans...being viewed in a more mixed light.
And so, the campaign has begun to highlight all of the positives in this wonderful reconciliation bill...to turn popular opinion around on it.
This is a coordinated effort with Trump’s White House, congressional leaders, and their political arms.
The democrats-have-been very good at fomenting anger at republicans over this package of reforms- but their efforts have all been based on lies. It’s up to republicans to correct and reverse those lies over the next 14 months or so.
Their political arms will do so by creating ads for social media and running them in swing state tv and radio markets...
And house and senate republicans will get their talking points and mission points as well.In fact, house republicans are being encouraged to go ‘right at’ the false Medicaid and food stamp narratives and actually tout the benefits of the changes-
Given that 70 percent of Americans support ‘some level’ of work requirements be put on our welfare programs. They know that it is unfair to ask people who are looking for a handout from government and we taxpayers-to do what they can- or contribute what they can to society- in order to get those handouts.
Whether it’s ‘show us you are training for a job or looking for work’...or whether it’s ‘you can surely go out and find a part time job and work 20 hours a week’....
A huge majority of Americans say they’d like to see welfare recipients participate in activities that are likely to get them off the dole at some point.
And so, speaker Mike Johnson and the team are smartly advising GOP house members to go-right at-the false accusations as they do interviews and hold town halls that democrats have sent astro-turners to sabotage.
The bill also includes reforms that will mean cheaper energy costs...and has 150-billion dollars to rebuild the military. It establishes a new tax credit for parents wanting to participate in school choice.
It's a great bill full of wins...and the republicans shouldn’t have to go out and sell it-but given how highly dishonest our MSM outlets are these days, they’ve been printing and selling leftist falsehoods and negative propaganda about it for months. It’s time for republicans to answer back.
But smart republican lawmakers are going to do that, anyway. Over the last week, I’ve had congressman Derrick Van Orden and Bryan Steil on the show....and noticed that both men steered the conversation toward ‘at least mentioning’ that the Medicaid and snap reforms only add a 20 hour a week work requirement...and that’s something 70 percent of voters say they support.
They answered my questions, but I did notice that both men were smart enough to veer off and slide in that pro-BBB messaging.
House members are up for re-election every two years. Both men are in districts the dc democrats think they could flip in a good year. They’re already doing the messaging.
I also give them credit for holding their town halls and ignoring the loudmouth, astroturf idiots and paid protestors who are showing up to make it look like... The people are mad over the big, beautiful bill....and Ice...and Epstein.
No, they’re not.
The republicans know that this is a highly organized effort by the same ole’ ‘Soros funded’ activist groups...and that the protestors don’t accurately represent what the American people are feeling.
Moreover- they are giving the rest of us ‘credit’ for seeing it, too.
They know these old hippies and Gen-Z melonheads are only embarrassing their political party...which is currently sitting at a 35 percent approval rate.
And trust me: screaming at lawmakers and drowning out everyone else who attended the town hall and wants to ask their legislator a serious question...is not the way to climb back out of that ‘disapproval hole’.
Politico has a story this week about how republicans are holding town halls and getting screamed at...but still aren’t sweating it.
Well-
That’s why: this is fake nonsense. It’s ‘trump derangement porn’ and ‘Soros theatre’...and it’s not tricking anyone, anymore.
If it ever did.
The leftist media members are running to cover these town halls and spin them as negatively against republicans as they can...but so far...they haven’t managed to rattle or frustrate any of the lawmakers who are being screamed at and targeted- like Bryan Steil.
It's going to take an awful lot to rattle, Bryan Steil on a ‘good day’...and he’s handling the astro-turfers well.
So is Mike flood of Nebraska-who is in such a deep red district that the left-wing activists had to bus people into his district just to pretend that there were Nebraskans who were angry at Mike Flood.
Yes, it’s why I was saying republicans shouldn’t have pooped around with this reconciliation bill until July...and should have instead struck quickly and had it passed by easter or mayday.
Their jerking around with it in congress allowed the democrats to misrepresent it and bash them with organized lies for months before their very positive bill was even passed-
Which has way too many Americans now believing the worst and seeing it as a negative bill.Mike Johnson and John Thune and their teams -in a way-have put their own party members in this position.
That said- the democrats and their screeching horde were always going to slam and smear and lie about it...so...it’s hard to say if ‘much’ would have been different if they’d passed it sooner.
Either way-the combination of relentless messaging over the next year-and an economy that should have markedly improved between now and next August. Is what’s going to determine whether republicans can ‘buck history’ and keep control of the house and senate.
Listen to Scott Jennings over at CNN. He knows that we, the people, just need to see improvement and relief from ‘what was’ the terrible Biden economy...and we’ll be inclined to vote republican, again.
(play it)
I agree.
And part of that equation will be determined by what sort of affect Trump’s tariffs have on the economy, now that they’ve officially gone into effect.
If you missed it-the vast majority of the new Trump tariffs took effect at midnight on Thursday...about 30 hours ago...
We all understand that the tariffs are going to lead to higher prices on some of these foreign goods...but the biggest worry if we are talking about huge economic disruption or price disruption’ .... would be if we saw actual trade wars, here.
But we’re not. It’s significant that virtually all these countries-including some of our most important trading partners- like the e-u countries-
Simply accepted the new or higher tariffs.
The thing that hasn’t happened- is Trump’s tariff moves touching off battles with the leaders of other countries that then hammer...our goods...or block more u-s trade...etc.
That hasn’t happened. And it hasn’t because trump and his team made it clear from the very beginning that these other countries need access to the US markets far more than we need them.... And... this is only about trying to shrink what has been a very unfair trade gap.
So, most of these countries and these leaders just rolled over- accepted the tariff changes -and are ready to move forward.
That! This is what is going to keep us from feeling any sort of major ‘tariff shock’ rippling thru our economy.
Still, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be at least smaller ripples being seen...in certain industries...and we’ll have to see how they affect markets, prices, and jobs NOW.
