Wow. They don’t screw around in Texas:
Just a few days later, Texas republicans have unveiled a new congressional redistricting map that would-in fact- create five more republican congressional districts in that state.
Huh. Imagine that.
This is a story we’ve been following. A few weeks ago, the trump dept of justice notified Texas state officials that ‘it looks like you’ve got an unconstitutional gerrymander, here. Right around that Austin area there’. And so, we’d like you to correct your map asap.
The Texas governor, Greg Abbott, agreed: you know...now that you mention it.... I do see what you’re talking about yes. Right around in this area, you mean. Yeah...
And so, Abbott called a quicky special session of the Texas legislature to deal with it-and given that they have supermajorities because Texas is -such- a red state- geez-
A few days later- we’ve got a new map. And in plenty of time for next fall, too.
(what’s really going to happen here is that Texas democrats and about 20 left-wing activist groups are going to sue over it and try to tie up any new map for years.... but...we’ll see how it plays out. It won’t be ‘smoothly’).
I wonder whether this new map will be in place by next fall. But...if it is...hey. This is perfectly legal, and it’s beating democrats at their own game.
Because-for 15 years now, at least, this era’s rabid, nasty, ‘win-at-all-costs’ democrats have been going state-to-state, stirring up trouble, and trying to force better legislative and congressional maps for themselves.
We’ve seen their bullying work-right here in Wisconsin. And so, it’s high time republicans started pushing back.
As our listener, Rodger, suggested yesterday, conservative organizations should file lawsuits in Illinois and challenge their ludicrously gerrymandered and highly unfair maps.
But- our right-wing activist groups shouldn’t stop there. They could easily sue over the maps in California, Maryland, and about a dozen other states.
For example. A conservative pundit looked state to state...and says...republicans are under-represented in congress in all sorts of states-based on the democrat’s own standards and arguments here...
For example...republicans in California make up 40 percent of the statewide vote...but only have nine out of 52 congressional seats in dc. That’s very lopsided.
As is Massachusetts-where republicans make up 35 percent of the statewide vote-but have zero. Zero congressional seats in that state...when the dems hold all nine.
Connecticut-same ratio: 38 percent republican voters. But there is zero representation in the house. Not even one of Connecticut’s’ 5 house seats is held by a republican. All these states have been controlled by democrats forever-and they have successfully written republicans out of power-in virtually all ways- and i don’t see eric holder or Barrack Obama calling them out on it...and labeling it outrageous...and demanding maps be rewritten.
No- the democrat outrage over congressional representation only goes ‘one way’.
And for the record-the very lopsided nature of these maps holds for New York, New Jersey, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii, too....
Republicans hold virtually no congressional seats in any of those states...and yet.... each state has somewhere between 30 and 45 percent republican turnout.
Republicans should sue in every one of those states-if democrats really want to play this game.
It’s high time we-on the right- start pushing back on the leftist bullying that we have all put up with for far, far too long.
