Jay Weber Show transcript 7-7-25
I’m sure you saw it: President Trump signing the big reconciliation bill into law-on the Fourth of July-
And even having a few military planes fly over the White House as he did it. Quite the showman.
That had to drive the democrats nuts.
Republicans in the house and senate-by some miracle- held together, for once- and got a significant portion of their 2024 agenda thru- in an important and historic move.
There is-no doubt- that this bill is going to spur more economic growth and finally put our economy back on more solid ground.
This was after a pathetic attempt by Hakeem Jefferies and democrats in the house to stop it on Thursday.
This is a huge, huge win for the American people.
We’ll talk about the democrat’s reaction to it-and how they think they car. Quote...message this...to win back majorities at congress in fall-
But all that really means is they think there’s all sorts of things on the bill to lie about. That’s all they’ve been doing to the American public for months now-is lie about what’s in this bill.
Which is why-by the way-their ‘big plan’ for 2026 isn’t going to work: we’ve got a year for the country to see all of the positive byproducts of this bill...while also seeing none of the ‘miseries and deaths’ that the left is predicting....to the point that- by next fall- the democrats’ lies aren’t going to be believable.
The Wall St Journal tells the story of how trump got this over the finish line in the house on Thursday- and it’s about what i suggested it would be: rather than tinker again- and have to send it back to the senate a second time-
The remaining ‘hold out’ house members just bit the bullet. They tried to get some last-minute promises out of President Trump and speaker Johnson- and did-
But they all basically knew they were going to have to vote for it.
These were characterized as only ‘vague promises’ made by the white house, rather than specific deals...but Trump admitted to reporters they might have ‘cut a few’...but says those lawmakers would have voted ‘yes’ anyway.
Chip Roy-who I featured Friday – voted in favor of the bill after complaining about some of the things in it for weeks, for example.
I had audio of him on Fox calling the bill a ‘travesty’.... but at the same time...talking about all the stuff that needed to pass.
The fact is-this bill isn’t a travesty. It doesn’t cut spending the way it should...but those things can be addressed in the coming budget bills. I hope.
Oh-and for the record- the hakeem Jefferies speech appears to have backfired. Even on some of his own members.
No one could quite understand why Jefferies- right when they all wanted to just go home for the holiday- because they all knew how this was going to turn out-
Choose to filibuster for 8 hours- in the chamber that doesn’t even have a filibuster. Many of his own members called it ‘self-indulgent’ and ridiculous.
It’s fun to see the democrats whine, but president trump and republicans didn’t pass this package to ‘screw the democrats. They did it to get America ‘back on track’ after 4 disastrous and dangerous years of joe Biden-and roughly 30 years of mismanagement in dc by members of both parties.
And no, the package didn’t solve the country’s financial problems-in terms of overspending, debts, and deficits-
But it at least ‘started on them’....as it took care of all sorts of very important things. You should have heard the democrats whine about the 150-million dollars to complete the wall, seal the border, and juice up the mass deportation effort.
AOC was apoplectic about it all weekend. And with good reason: after this money has been spent, it will be very difficult for a future presidential administration to simply throw open the borders and flood the country with illegals.
Now- if republicans could keep their majorities for 2026- or do visa reform in the fall or spring reconciliation bill-we might really have a lasting immigration policy that works.
Let me highlight a few other wins you might not hear about, otherwise: how about finally. Finally. Federally defunding planned parenthood?
A huge win for the conservative and pro-life right.
This bill defends planned parenthood- that’s the good news. The bad news is- it only defends it for a single year. Hopefully, future republican congresses can make that permanent-
And even killing off their funding for a single year means major consequences to planned parenthood. Because it ‘blows up’ their business model, and their leaders cannot assume that this federal funding ever comes back.
Both this bill-and an important supreme court case that just ruled state governments-can-block Medicaid funding from going to planned parenthood, as well, means the leaders of that evil organization can no longer count on this long-time shell game that they’ve been playing...claiming federal dollars aren’t going to fund abortions.
And boy, this scummy organization’s narrative sure has changed, hasn’t it? Both it- and the corporation for public broadcasting-
Always wanted to claim that, well, hey, the federal funding we get is only a small portion of our budget. So, it’s not even that big a deal if republicans cut it.
Both corporations are singing a different tune now, as it’s now official: planned parenthood has lost its public funding.
And PBS and NPR are still likely to lose ‘some’ of it, if not ‘all of it’, when the two chambers finally deal with the doge recission packages.
But- already on Friday-planned parenthood execs were insisting they will take the Trump administration to court over this finding cut.
This- also- sounds like a lawsuit they cannot win...given that the power of the federal purse is given to congress...and if congress votes to defend something. No matter how long that ‘thing’ has been getting federal funding-
Gee. That’s their right as congressmen.
I don’t see planned parenthood winning this lawsuit, either, but on Friday-they lashed out:
By the way...every service that planned parenthood is currently providing in u-s hospitals and clinics-and then getting reimbursed by Medicaid for- can also be done by dozens of other health care providers.
There’s nothing magical about what planned parenthood is billing these hospitals for. Dozens of other health organizations do it- and bill Medicaid for it-
And so, she’s simply lying about some ‘loss of care’ here.
This is a significant hit to that ghoulish organization.
Another thing the mega-bill does drops people who are making millions in income...from being eligible for unemployment benefits.
This is a change that some conservative lawmakers have been trying to make for at least 15 years.
So that saves money and stops ‘one form’ of abuse of our unemployment system.
Also in this bill: the snuffing out of hundreds of billions of dollars in wasteful spending on green energy. Some of the Biden-era subsidies are snuffed out immediately. Others are phased out over a few years. But it’s another significant win for sanity in our energy policy.
And the Wall St. Journal reports the owners of ‘green energy companies’ know it.
They know that ‘no one wants this stuff’ if they must pay full price for it.
And while domestic oil and gas drillers are happy to hear the news- it was the eight members of OPEC who pledged to start drilling more-as of August.
This means that gas prices that are expected to remain ‘about where they are’ during the peak summer driving season-should slide lower come fall.
Everything’s coming up ‘Trump’ and ‘pro-America’ again, it seems.
As it should be.
