The left thinks Trump is losing his fight with Harvard

Jay Weber Show transcript 5-29-25

You really do have to wonder what sort of world some of these democrats live in...

One of the latest narratives on the left is that Trump’s getting desperate in his fight against Harvard.

What?

Yeah. Harvard’s not caving to Trump’s bullying. And so...the flop sweat has started. Trump’s getting increasingly desperate to get Harvard leaders to cave.

Ah, okay...but...Harvard’s the side of the equation that’s losing badly and having its campus and its reputation destroyed...and from where I’m sitting, Trump hasn’t even broken a sweat, yet.

Folks-president Trump is mostly focused on other things. He’s got bigger decisions to make and bigger crises to handle.

It looks to me as if he occasionally gets an update on whether Harvard has caved yet and says ‘no? Then take the next step’.

And if Harvard never caves? You get the sense that President Trump and his team will simply shake their heads at that...express regret that a ‘once great’ American institution was destroyed by racism and socialism...and then move on.

This is an instance in which- Harvard elites and their supporters- think? - president trump is losing sleep over this.... or.... Arrogantly -think? - that trump is obsessed with them? When he’s not.

Honestly? Harvard officials are acting like the arrogant ‘mean girl’ who keeps asking why everyone’s so obsessed with them.

You know the type?Daddy’s got money. She’s got all the best clothes and make-up. She’s posting fifty selfies on Tik Tok every day. She’s got her little gaggle of clinger girls ...but everyone else in the school is ignoring her.

But in her own mind.... gaaawww....why’s everyone so obsessed with me?   People are...so...obsessed with me.

Harvard and the east coast elites, apparently, think that they’re somehow winning this standoff here...and they’ve got trump on the run...but nothing could be further from the truth.

I get the impression that Harvard is hurting...and Trump’s team is just now- starting to squeeze their grapes.

He’s canceled most of their federal contracts and blocked about -half? -of their 9-billion dollars a year in federal funding. He’s blocked them from accepting foreign students next year- and forcing their current foreign students to transfer if they want to stay in the country-

And yes-

I know those exec orders have been temporarily blocked by a district judge- but the president could do these things and probably wins in court eventually.

For heaven’s sake-Trump has a recent Supreme Court decision behind him- validating that Harvard has been breaking civil rights laws and discriminating.

Meanwhile- Harvard and its donors are spending tens of millions of dollars on lawyers and lawsuits.

I’d think that President Alan Garber is chewing tums and losing sleep at this point...but still can’t point to a single ‘win’ Harvard has scored against the Trump effort.

it’s telling me that even liberal Harvard graduates and former faculty members are stepping up to say: my god, settle, already! Be smart about this and save the institution! You’re really tripling down on the institutional racism that-your own investigation admits is real?

What are you doing?

You’ve got liberals like Alan Dershowitz and Johnathan Turley saying- be smart. Be cooperative. You’re destroying the university and you’re on the wrong side of fairness and history, here.

You’ve got powerful Harvard grads like Bill Ackman saying the same thing: you’re really going to defend institutional antisemitism and DEI racism? At the expense of destroying Harvard?

None of their intransigence seems to make sense to anyone on either side of the aisle who has a brain and some common sense.

It’s not like Harvard leaders are even -really-denying the accusations of discrimination and their open violations of civil rights laws for decades.

They’re basically criminals who are admitting to the crimes-but still insisting they have higher moral and ethical ground.

Not hardly.

And this fight with trump-is not- having the effect on the country that they think it is.This is a university that is increasingly being exposed as illegitimate.

This is a university that has more and more Americans asking themselves, ‘how was it ever allowed to get this bad? How could this once-great campus- go so wrong? Are America-hating leftists controlling it? Almost exclusively make up its faculty. Demand leftist indoctrination of anyone who wants to get a degree from there. In any career?

Wow.

Instead of ‘alerting America to Harvard’s plight to remain a citadel of learning’. This push back by Harvard’s leaders has-instead- exposed it as the tower of leftist rot that Harvard has become.

President Trump-is not- losing this standoff. Trust me.

The American people, have been either ignoring-or too timid-to stand up and fight back against the leftist indoctrination that has been going on at all levels in our schools-

To the point that -if the pendulum is ever going to swing back -something harsh and dramatic needs to act as the wake-up call.

And the trump team’s serious and unrelenting focus on this- is huge. It is that ‘wakeup call’.

Dei, racism, discrimination, nasty and loaded terms like ‘social justice’ and ‘intersectionality’ all need to be stripped out-and go away.

And trump and his team are bold enough to lead the charge. Thank God.

As part of my final segment yesterday, I was talking about Harvard’s leaders, and saying: when it comes to the damage trump can do to these institutions of, they don’t cooperate--

Trump holds all the cards.

The other thing that the leaders of these universities should start to think about is whether they can just ‘hide and ride this out’...because it will be over in four years?

Will it?

There’s at least decent chance that trump has a successful enough second term that the American people want to ‘keep this going’ in 2028 and elect another republican.

That person would be a ‘first term’ republican in a country with a history of giving virtually every president two terms.

And so- these university execs and faculty members who are feeling to certain they can ‘outlast Trump’.... should also be asking themselves: but can we dig in and refuse to change...and lose all foreign students and federal funding for 8 years? Twelve years? If it takes that long?

We are really, so invested in our own twisted version of how racism and hate and discrimination are a good thing...if they are directed at the right people.... that we’re going to hunker down and keep defending them?

As I said yesterday:

These ‘brilliant’ and ‘arrogant’ Harvard leaders need to consider what their future -could- look like if a second ‘Trump term’ turns into a larger ‘Trump era’ that runs 8 or 12.
