Trump is bringing back optimism in America

Jay Weber Show transcript 5-8-25

I don’t think this will shock anyone in this audience. It’ll more likely sadden them:

Trump rebuilds while Biden’s failures collapse around us. The president is proving that America doesn't need to settle for decline.  by Jorge Martinez/The Washington Times

After the Biden-Harris administration left Americans drowning in inflation, insecurity and incompetence, President Trump is rebuilding the country with the bold, pro-American leadership we were missing for four long years.

In just a few short months, Mr. Trump has done what President Biden never could: restore economic confidence, reignite job growth and reassert control over a nation that had slipped into crisis. The April jobs report, which blew past Wall Street expectations, was good news for the stock market and a clear signal that the era of “Bidenomics” is finally ending.

Wages are rising, and 177,000 new jobs have been created. Labor force participation is up. This is happening despite the media’s predictions of collapse under Mr. Trump’s tariffs and federal restructuring efforts. Why? Because markets respond to strength. Employers respond to certainty, and the American people respond to results.

That’s depressing news....and it speaks of the need to start bringing prices down...which starts with bringing energy costs down the price of raw materials down...etc.

Trump and his economic team have us on the path to do all those things.... trade wars aside... And those trade wars are going to iron themselves out over the next several weeks here.

The biggest driver of inflationary prices is energy prices-and gas and oil prices are already down in the Trump era...even before the ‘big, beautiful’ reconciliation bill passes and encourages even more exploration and lower prices.

But the biggest deflationary move that needs to be made is to get off of this reckless rollercoaster of runaway spending that Biden and his gaggle of idiots have us on.

Dramatically cutting federal spending and drying up the trillions of dollars i excess govt money that Biden’s regime has poised to keep flowing into this economy over the next decade- needs to be corrected.

And that, too, should come as part of this big reconciliation bill.

We’ve talked about how Biden has us spending over seven trillion dollars to fund and expand federal government. We need to cut that down to 5.5 or six trillion dollars just to erase the annual federal deficit and slow the runaway spending.

It'd be great if we could make the spending even lower but don’t count on it. These republicans in charge of congress are having a very difficult time getting their various members and factions to agree on cuts and adjustments that would get us down to six trillion in spending. They aren’t even ‘trying’ for five trillion. As they should be.

But I will give them credit for being smart in their overall approach to this bill...and trying to cram as many reforms as they can-into it- as they go.

This thing is bound to pass with only ‘some of what’s in it’ ever being known to the average American. With so many other things going on, and with the leftist media being tripped up by their own ignorance...it’s a perfect time for conservatives to ‘slip thru reforms’ without too much controversy.

For example:a group of republicans is looking at food stamp reform. This is long, long, long overdue.... because food stamps were meant to be temporary, emergency help for desperate Americans...and have, instead...become a ‘normal way of life’ for over 40-million people.

This must end. We have got to find a way to transition at least ‘some of these people’s back into being productive citizens who are able and willing to ‘provide for themselves’.

The Wall St Journal editors today say: this is another thing that won’t be politically popular- because democrats will pitch fits and claim republicans are ‘killing people’...but...it needs to be done.

The editors conclude by saying-again-that regardless of what republicans do- the dems are going to attack them as terrible, heartless monsters, and so- there’s no reason -not to- reform the snap program.

And I agree.

If republicans don’t touch this program-the dems will still accuse them of gutting it and starving people. Some already are.

How many times have Donald Trump and JD Vance said they will not touch Medicare or Social Security? And yet, democrats are relentlessly lying and smearing them with that scare.

In a way-this should be seen as liberating to all those nervous republicans: look, if the dems are going to lie and have their activists screaming at you either way- you may as well do what’s right...and responsible...and vote to reform these programs.

And as for the so-called ‘benefits cliff’ that has people losing food stamp benefits if they work ‘even a few more hours’ – that does need to be addressed.

Because right now-it is keeping all sorts of people-especially young people and slackers- from taking full time jobs...or taking some overtime hours....so they don’t lose their government handout.

The problem is: no one seems to know what the answer is. How do you reform the snap program so that workers can take more hours, earn more money, and not lose their benefits?

At some point you need to draw the line: where is it- that people lose their food stamps? Or have they cut in half?

Wherever you put that line.... millions of Americans are only going to ‘walk up to it’...but never cross it...so they don’t lose their govt freebee.

I admit I don’t know what the fix is to that problem.

And -in what might be the biggest problem of all- most democrats want to- put more people onto- government dependency...rather than take them off.

If everyone gets a govt check...they’ll all vote democrat....to keep it.

Correct?

And so- worst of all when you start talking about common sense reforms to what are supposed to be ‘safety net’ programs...is that today’s democrats don’t want to cut the welfare rolls. They only want ‘more people’s welfare.
