I did a segment yesterday related to the battle over which side of the democrat party tent is going to ‘win out’ and control the party moving forward-
Will it be the socialist progressives who helped drive the country into the ground during the Biden and Obama eras?
Or will it be the more traditional, triangulating liberals who- even if they aren’t really ‘moderates’ - are smart enough to pivot and try to get back onto the right side of most of our major issues.
So far? -
The traditional liberals are losing out to the socialist progressives. The move to oust Chuck Schumer from his senate leadership role just keeps growing- as he scrambles from traditional media outlet to traditional media outlet- trying to convince his own party members not to strip him of his power-
And as he’s doing that- Bernie Sanders and AOC are starting to draw huge crowds on a ‘fight the oligarchs’ tour, or some such thing.
Well, yesterday, one of the more powerful leftwing activist groups- move on- sent a letter to Schumer and democrat leaders saying: your grassroots want to see you fighting trump every step of the way- and we aren’t seeing it.
So the ‘Schumer’s a dud’ sentiment only continues
To grow...which is fun to see. And no, he’s not going to resign. And no, his own senate caucus members aren’t going to force him out of leadership-
Because they know that he actually did the ‘wiser thing’ two Friday’s ago when he decided they needed to go along with the republicans short-term spending bill- because the alternative was worse: to force a govt shutdown that a) they’d be blamed for ...and b) would leave Donald Trump and Elon Musk ‘home alone’ in DC as lawmakers and about a third of our govt workers went home for weeks on end.
The democrats-correctly assessed-that leaving trump and doge alone in dc was like leaving a group of kids alone in a candy store overnight. The results wouldn’t have been pretty.
And so- the ‘cave’ was the smart move-even if Schumer’s being slammed for it, now.
But- that’s about as far as I can go when it comes to labeling Chuck Schumer ‘smart’ in the way he and Hakeem Jefferies have been handling this.
These men have met in private-as Chuck Schumer admits- he says (we only live a few minutes away from each other in dc and get together to strategize)
And so- they’ve met and come up with some narrative that ‘we’ve got trump on the ropes’...which sounds so stupid that they shouldn’t be floating it.
But- there was chuck- on ‘NBC’ floating it again Sunday...
I’m sorry-but that doesn’t even sound credible to the average viewer- because if you are just your average ‘meet the press’ viewer-you know that the dems haven’t been fighting back with oversight hearings...or thru legislation...because democrats don’t control congress!
Folks- the dems don’t control the committees or schedule the hearings in either chamber of congress. And so, I have no idea what Chuck Schumer is talking about. It’s just more gaslighting.
But-as for this premise that ‘it’s working’. Trump’s approval ratings are already going down.
No.
They’re not.The Rasmussen and Tipp daily tracking polls have trump’s overall approval rating back up around 50 or 52 percent. Pretty much where it has been-for weeks now.
But. But...the American people are really starting to hate Elon Musk and Doge.
Again-
No, they’re not.You can do a popularity poll on musk if you’d like-but regardless of what it says- 2/3 of the country says they support the doge effort to cut and reform our federal government.
In fact-if anything-the number of Americans who say they support that effort is only growing.
It depends on how the pollsters phrase the question- and whether they try to lead respondents or smear the effort- but the latest polls I’ve seen have 71 and 73 percent of respondents saying they support the effort to root out the fraud and reform government.
Those numbers are -higher-than they have been.
And so- 60 days later-Trump has the best approval ratings that he’s ever had. His policies are as popular as ever. And Chuck and Hakeem think they are winning something here?
We’ve really got Trump on the ropes now, boy.
Does -anyone? -believe that?
It doesn’t appear so.
Instead, every bit of analysis from their -own-side of the aisle is dower, and dark, and in truth? -
It is so miserable that I worry it’s going to make us on the right so complacent and confident that we’ll let our guard down and give them an opening to quickly revive the party.
That’s what I’m worried about now- even as I have fun watching them wallow in their negativity and crapulence.
This is all good ‘giggle material’ for us in the right-but if democrats can manage to win a few early elections- including this one in Wisconsin on April first- that’s going to put some wind back in their sails and this five months of ‘darkness’ since the November election might evaporate pretty quickly on the left.
Such is the nature of politics.
Remember-when Mitt Romney lost to Obama in 2012-the republican party was said to be ‘lost for a generation’. Rudderless. There was no quick coming back from this.
People mocked Reince Priebus for doing a post-mortem that exposed all the party’s weaknesses, etc. And then- two years later- the GOP had a decent ‘off year’ election and four years later-the GOP won with trump and all that doomsday talk was forgotten.
That’s what’s going to happen with the democrat party again, at some point. Let’s just hope it’s not soon.
And hey-
At least we’ve got the Bernie Sanders and AOC ‘comedy tour’ to help keep the tent chaotic for a little while longer.
Because most Americans-still don’t want socialism- but Bernie and AOC are now more convinced than ever that they do.
Last week, Bernie dusted off his tired old talking points for a 3rd decade-and …oooo… the crowd seemed to love them.
Make no mistake, people: this isn’t Bernie and AOC trying to ‘fight trump’. That’s not why they are on this tour 19 months from the next election.
No, no.
If you think the ‘oligarch’s’ tour has anything to do with ‘fighting Trump’ you are mistaken.
No. Bernie and AOC launched this tour to ‘beat Schumer and the party’s veteran leaders so that they can continue to control the party tent.
This is the ‘we can’t moderate’ tour.... for the socialist progressives. Not the ‘we got to fight Trump’ tour.
The emergency that Bernie and AOC see here is: their policies and b-s failed spectacularly for the four years of Biden....and they are at risk of losing ideological control of the party.
Smarter strategists like Carville, and Schumer and Rahm Emmanuel want the party to move back toward the middle and get back on the popular side of the issues with the American people.
The Biden years were a blooming disaster-and everyone knows it. And about half of the members in that democrat tent want to return to some common sense and some ‘pro-America’ positions.
But- by God- Bernie and AOC and the other half of the tent who are now socialists. Will. Not. Moderate.
Instead, they are certain that the answer lies in ‘more socialism’. Sell it harder.
So, they are taking a new chunk of ‘oligarch money’ from George Soros and other leftist, America-hating billionaires, and launching their ludicrous tour.
But it’s not meant for you and me. It’s not even meant for moderates or independents. It’s targeted specifically to the left-wing diehards who want to keep controlling this party’s path and party’s message.
It's the ‘open borders’ and ‘toddler drag shows’ agenda...and by God...it’s what a ‘better America’ looks like.
