Susan Crawford will be a disaster on the Wisconsin Supreme Court

Jay Weber Show transcript 2-18-25

So, what’s ‘at stake’ in this State Supreme Court race that’s currently underway

Yesterday-a group funded by Elon musk called building America’s future announced that they are placing about 700-grand worth of ads in Wisconsin’s TV markets-on behalf of Brad Schimel.

Huzzah, huzzah, the first wave of the ‘third party’ cavalry is arriving here.

I don’t know about you, but for weeks- all I’ve seen is Susan Crawford ads-and very dishonest ones-at that.

I’ve seen Schimel ads ‘here and there’ but Crawford ads seem to be all over. And Schimel has been openly talking about how he’s been hoping for help from groups like Wisconsin manufacturers and commerce and other outside groups that will sometimes participate in key elections.

Well, the Musk group is getting involved with some ads that start Thursday. They’ll run for two weeks on tv stations across the state.

Dan Bice has been characterizing this as Schimel ‘complaining’ and ‘begging for help’ ...which I’d say are some loaded characterizations-

But- from day one-we’ve talked about how any successful conservative supreme court candidate is going to need financial help-given how many rich, national democrat donors are willing to pile into local and regional races now.

This race is no different-given what’s at stake: which is, basically, every single reform made during the walker administration- as well as voter id laws and act ten, specifically being targeted, and even Wisconsin’s congressional maps-with dems believing that they can literally ‘steal back’ two seats from the GOP if Susan Crawford is on the court to help them rig new electoral maps.

This is all at stake in this race.

And now we are getting down to crunch time.

Election day is April first. Early voting starts two weeks before that- we on the right need another stellar ‘ground game’ and get out the vote effort- of the sort that we saw last fall when we flipped Wisconsin in favor of Donald Trump, again.

I know that AFP Wisconsin and other grassroots organizing coordinated by Brian Shimming at the State GOP have been occurring. They’ve been out since at least the first of the year knocking doors and trying to make sure that this race is on the voter’s radar-and why it’s so vitally important.

But- as we’ve seen over the last several years- the state democrat fundraising and organizing machine is also a beast. They’re going to hope that they can simply ‘buy’ this court seat as they did for Jill Karovski and Janet Protosawitz.

And Susan Crawford has left ‘no doubt’ that she is an activist democrat who has spent the last few years masquerading as a ‘fair minded’ judge.

There’s at least five different ways that Susan Crawford is bad for Wisconsin and at least three ways that she’s bad for your wallet and will absolutely make decisions that raise your taxes.

And then there are all the other things that I’d point to-as ‘great Scott Walker and GOP reforms’ that would also be under threat-that aren’t even being talked about. Such as- conceal carry and castle law.

I think concealed carry is ‘here to stay’ but that doesn’t mean that a leftist supreme court won’t try to put more requirements around it -based on lawsuits the left can dream up....or be there to validate new anti-gun laws that democrats could put in place if they regain control of the legislature over the next few election cycles.

Consider that one controversial shooting incident in which someone is defending their home and shoots an intruder that the anti-gun left could use as a reason to sue over castle doctrine...and that could be challenged in the era of a leftist state supreme court and killed off.

How about a challenge to Wisconsin’s ‘right to work’ law?  You know the labor unions and their lawyers are dreaming up ways to challenge that one.

How about challenging the law republicans put in place that limits how much local property taxes can be raised? You know that one’s going to be challenged if the chance to overturn it arises.

Every common sense reform of the last 15 years could be challenged-and probably will be- if Susan Crawford wins this State Supreme Court race.
