Iowa and 18 other states are now telling Costco execs: drop the DEI, or else.
There’s no specific legal action being taken against Costco -yet- but if right wing activists and at least 19 attorney’s general in the red states are going to be gunning for them- it won’t be long until they find someone who has ‘standing to sue’.
The first white woman who’s passed up for a promotion -who even thinks- it was because of her skin color- has grounds to sue.
I can’t imagine that Costco is going to fight this off, long term.
Or why they’d even want to.
Next item: Ted Cruz is making another move to kill off the brainchild of Squats with Unions: the consumer financial protection bureau.
I’ve believed this was unconstitutional from the very start-based on how it’s set up. This was Liz Warren’s brainchild back in the barrack Obama era-
When they created yet another govt entity whose mission was to terrorize businesses in the financial sector and pick winners and losers based on left-wing politics.
I think you will get it: if this leftist racket is funded directly from the treasury, well, congress can pass a law that says-zero money can be transferred from the treasury to the CFPB. Their annual budget is zero.
This is Ted Cruz’s latest attempt to kill off Liz Warren’s demon-baby. I don’t know if it will work-but I applaud Cruz for continuing to try.
In the earlier attempts to kill off this thing, republicans didn’t have the votes to clear the filibuster threshold.
This time around, Ted Cruz thinks he can get it slip into a reconciliation bill, which would mean it would become law with just a simple majority vote in the senate. Just 51 votes.
To be put into a reconciliation bill, the proposal needs to be ‘budget related’ and fiscal in nature-
In fact-the specific way it’s phrased is...it must be fiscal in nature and must have a significant impact on the budget...
Well-that’s the rub: if congress passes the budget, but this agency gets its funding directly from the treasury-not congress- well- is it technically part of the budget process?
This is what the dems and their supporters will argue in their attempt to block this: but, but it’s not part of the congressional budget.
Which-to me-only verifies that it’s unconstitutional: if the legislative branch has the power of the purse- it- constitutionally- must have power over the CFPB’s budget, no?
And if it doesn’t, then the entity that Liz Warren created- is not constitutional.
The democrats cannot have it both ways-and yet-they’ve been able to, so far, on this one.And it’s infuriating.
Squats and her minions cannot argue that this agency is untouchable because it’s not funded by congress- and claims it’s constitutional. At least not with any credibility.
But it will be up to the senate parliamentarian to decide whether Cruz is correct-and it can be put into the reconciliation bill. And I’m just going to guess that she will deny Cruz’s attempt, here.
Somehow-
If the republicans cannot kill this off -they somehow need to find a way to get a case in front of the supreme court- because i cannot imagine that a conservative leaning, originalist minded, court is going to rule that this is a constitutional set up that Liz Warren has invented.
In 250 years only she! - has found the constitutional loophole here, that allows money to be taken and used directly from the treasury- even though it was not approved by congress.
250 years of some really bright people and parliamentarians running this country- and Squats with Unions- Liz Warren- is the one person who found the loophole.
That’s like believing AOC has found the cure for lupus.
I just don’t buy it.
