It isn’t just the liberal cable stations that have been tanking since the election-and all thru the Biden era-
The big media story on the east coast this week is how- in truth- the Washington Post isn’t even a ‘real newspaper’ anymore.
And it’s not because of recent staff cuts. Those are a byproduct of a paper whose on-line readership has dropped ninety percent. Ninety percent- over the last 4 years.
Wow.
So- the Trump and covid eras increase the wash post’s readership- only to have it tank after Joe Biden gets into office and the post starts gaslighting for Biden and the democrats as they destroy the country. What a surprise.
The hard numbers are reported as the post having over 22-million on-line users when Biden took office....and now only having about 2.5 million users as he leaves office.
Oof.
That’s’ an 87 percent drop in web traffic. And that’s not necessarily ‘subscribers. That’s’ just daily web hits.
Still- the Wash Post puts most of its content behind a fire wall-and so-most of those users were probably subscribers. And are now gone. I don’t know how they classify a quote ‘daily active user’.... but that’s what they are counting.
The Wall St Journal claims that this loss of 90 percent of their traffic has led to a 100-million-dollar financial loss in subscription and ad revenue in 2024. Oof, again.
Jeff Bezos bought the Post to try to save it. He might have to just plow it under.
These reports say Bezos lost 250-thousand subscribers for the paper-in one fell swoop-when he stepped in and blocked the editorial board from endorsing kamala in October.
Do you remember that?
All the activist liberals who pretend to be unbiased journalists at the paper- and across dc- pitched a fit because the owner of the paper dared to step in and question their endorsement and their journalistic integrity.
To the point that- the post employees pitched a public fit. Slammed their own owner...and caused 250-thousand liberal subscribers to cancel the paper.
Well then, who’s left?
If conservative and moderate readers had abandoned the post and its leftist content years ago-it only had lefty subscribers. Right?
250 thousand fled all at one time-driving a nail further into the post’s coffin. Wow.
Now-the most recent thing-longtime post contributors quitting the paper and bashing it as they leave.
Okay- so- the much-needed cleansing of the post’s staff has occurred. Bezos is now free to re-staff it with -actual- journalists.... or he can reinvent it some other way...or plow it under.
But it’s another example of a ‘once great’ newspaper bringing about its own demise- not because the era of the physical newspaper is gone-
But because the editors and workers of that newspaper decided the way they were going to enter this new era- was as political activists and not journalists.
You cannot be a paper that creates a 25 person staff to report on all of Donald Trump’s terrible lies and fascism.... And then...dissolve it when Biden gets into office and only write glowing stories about the democrat administration...and expect to be taken seriously.
You cannot have an ‘rolling count on president trump’s lies’ for four years... And then abandon any effort to count President Biden’s never-ending lies....and even participate in Biden’s gaslighting of America....and expect to be taken seriously as a newspaper.
Sorry- as a former journalist I -hate- to see the death of journalism...but i like to see the death of outlets whose content creators have only pretended to be journalists...for at least two decades now.
That story tailors in with this: Rich Lowry and a few people at National Review pointing out what a terrible, bleak winter this has been for the so-called progressives.
It has. And fortunes change fast in politics. Maybe the democrats and socialist progressive left can bounce back quickly in 2026...but...it sure feels like there’s been a more significant shift in this country.
It sure feels like ‘something bigger’ happened in 2024. Doesn’t it?
And Lowry is right to point to the California wildfires as a very significant disaster for the progressive and eco-zealot left.
This seems to be leading to ‘something bigger’ too, doesn’t it? Maybe a more significant awakening by at least some sliver of people on the left?
Ian Tuttle of the national review correctly states:
Progressivism Faces a Double Blow
Yep.
We, the people, have come to believe that we can be assured ‘some level’ of government competence and protection.... for the taxes that we pay.
At their most basic-we expect our local taxes will mean...the cops come quickly if they are called...as does the fire department or EMTs. The garbage gets picked up. The streets get plowed.
And at the most fundamental levels- socialist progressives and their ‘progressivisms’ have betrayed the people of la county and destroyed that public trust. That trust in ‘the basic competence’ of our local and state government.
And that’s a biggie for most voters.
Want another fun kicker out of California? Another way California democrats have been caught betraying the people who voted for them?
Did you see that the illegal alien who was caught setting fires in the la area last week.... will be saved from deportation thanks to LA’s sanctuary laws?
Fantastic.
Thus, human turd is from Mexico...and by la and California codes- law enforcement cannot call ice to have him picked up-or even cooperate with an ice inquiry-or effort to deport him.
And ice-did-issue a detainer. And so, we’ll see if Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass suddenly decide to abandon all of their longtime and ‘deeply felt’ beliefs on the importance of protecting illegals from deportation...when the rubber really hits the road here...
You might have also heard that this idiot also hasn’t been charged with arson. Why not?
Ask the leftist judge or left-wing DA.
Newsweek is reporting that this 33 year old arsonist had at least four encounters with LA law enforcement over the last year, alone. And he’s still walking the streets of la.
So-called ‘progressivism’ is being exposed as a dangerous farce in all sorts of ways...as we move into 2025.
