One of the great twists of irony that is coming because of this second Trump era- is that the conservative Supreme and appellate courts that today’s lefties hate so much are going to become their greatest hope for stopping as much of the Trump agenda as they can.
This is going to be fun to watch.
For 8 years, the democrats and every mouthpiece in the liberal media and activist left has done nothing other than relentlessly trash this Supreme Court and the three selections to it that Donald Trump made.
But watch how quickly they are going to change their tune now that their only recourse against many of the executive orders and congressional maneuvers that Donald Trump is going to make-is going to be-running to court.
I predict it will start right away with Trump’s recess appointments, regardless of whether republicans cooperate with trump and adjourn on their own...so that he can place his nominees...or whether they balk...and Trump orders them into recess.... which is a constitutional gambit that has never tried before.
Either way, if Donald Trump succeeds in getting most-or-all his nominees put into place via recess appointments- the democrats will sue and take that to court.
First-they know it’s their only recourse, and second, they know that all their complaints will end up in front of the second circuit court of appeals...which Harry Reid and the dems stacked with liberals in an Obama-era gambit to win every new parliamentary or intra-government showdown like this.
If Trump and his appointees do even half of the reforming and deregulating that they are threatening to do- the democrats are going to have a path worn into the concrete between the capitol and the second court of appeals-
They will also very likely have a path worn across the street- right to the supreme court building, too.
After all- a lot of their screaming outrage is going to come along with demands for permanent injunctions and demands that the supreme court intervene immediately.
Just watch how much the dems come to rely on these terrible, awful, dishonest Supreme Court justices now that they’ll need to.
Our own local guy- Christian Schneider- will still occasionally drop a column onto the national review-and he addresses this in a column today:
The Left Should Learn to Love the Supreme Court
This 6-3 conservative court has been-very fair. Every even-handed in their rulings over the last several sessions because they are-after all-originalists who are following the constitution, instead of trying to reinterpret it to their liking or changing it with their rulings.
This is precisely the reason that today’s democrats-should! -have an instant conversion to liking this court: because it’s going to stop any serious Trump-era overreach.
But here’s the thing: at least in Trump’s first term-he didn’t engage in the sort of bold or regular constitutional overreaches that Joe Biden or Barrack Obama did.
Seriously. Look it up: the Trump regime had very few of their maneuvers or orders overturned by the courts in term number one-because they weren’t engaging in constitutional overreaches.
And so, if Trump has smart lawyers and well-crafted changes, I’d expect that he could get all sorts of major reforms done within the context of the constitution.
But you still know that the democrats are going to rush to court to challenge every. Single. One.
But this new Trump team is going to be able slap down or overturn these challenges.
Because he’s got very smart and dedicated lawyers who are going to be crafting-and standing behind-any of these reforms and maneuvers.
And let’s hope they are ‘legion’.
But there is so much Trump and a newly reformed DOJ-could do- to start restoring integrity and fairness to our government agencies and the so-called ‘deep state’.
And I have no doubt that brilliant men like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are going to have even more ‘outside the box’ sorts of ideas.
The Wall St Journal is detailing how- since election night-Donald Trump and Elon Musk have been essentially inseparable.
Apparently, Elon has been basically ‘living’ at Mar a Lago over the last two weeks...and people around the place are joking that he’s the nightmare house guest who won’t leave.
The truth is-Trump wants him there-and is inviting into virtually every meeting in order to help in the decision making for the transition team.
Hey-if you were president, wouldn’t you want one of the smartest men in the world around-at least as a sounding board? Advice-giver?
He will probably come nowhere near approaching that goal...but. It’s the stated goal.
Elon still likely has no idea how entrenched and protected the federal bureaucracy is-and what an act of at least three supreme gods it takes-to make changes or cut spending.
I wish him all the luck and success in the world and am pulling for him in every way.
Musk has become a lightning rod for the left-but from everything I have seen of him- he’s a very genuine person...one who doesn’t hide his agenda and doesn’t try to be ‘coy’ or cute.
That might be a side effect of his slight Asperger’s...
But he’s one of the most honest men I’ve seen who has such a public profile.
Many critics on both the left and the right have been cynically claiming that Musk ‘bought access’ to trump and that’s why he’s horning in at Mar a Lago and all of the big decisions.
After all- 200-million dollars. Wow.
But I don’t see it that way at all. If Trump didn’t want him around, he’d find a way to get him to leave and go back to Texas-and –
If Trump didn’t want him around-he wouldn’t be spending nearly so much time with him.
No- musk’s intent isn’t to ‘buy access’ and bend the country to his benefit.
You can tell that Elon genuinely feels as if he’s in a unique position to help fix this country and supply a vision and a path that leads it forward.
The man-did- strike a huge blow for the first amendment when he bought twitter and preserved it from increasing ‘big govt’ control.
He ‘saved free speech and free debate’ to the point that X became the most important and trusted ‘source’ for voters this year.
That’s no small feat. And it didn’t play a minor role in shifting the country rightward.
I see musk as a brilliant man and a great patriot who isn’t infallible-but is a genius- and is probably worth ‘valuing’ and listening to.
