I love this: just a few days after crying poor and cutting a deal for nearly a billion dollars in new funding for the UW system-
While insisting that their leftist, race-baiting, DEI effort was being overblown by conservatives...
UW Madison’s chancellor is announcing a program that will cover the entire cost of a college degree for any native American student in Wisconsin. From a Wisconsin tribe.
Isn’t that something?
And where is that money coming from? You and me-the taxpayers-and from the other parents and students who are paying way too much for a UW education, apparently. They run a shell game and claim otherwise-but we’ll get to that.
These people are perpetually insisting that the
UW schools need more funding, need more funding, need more funding...and then look how cavalierly they spend it-and what they spend it on.
This sounds so ‘woke’ and virtuous, doesn’t it?
Just days after they deny they are out of control with this DEI stuff-
Jennifer Mnookin comes out of the blue with another insane, woke, ‘giveaway’. Anyone who can prove they have some Wisconsin tribal blood in them gets a college education for free at the UW Madison.
There is apparently no test for ‘financial need’ or anything.
This is nonsense. What are they feeling guilty over?
Well-
The article tells us-
Well- way back in the 1800s, way before the university system was there- Native Americans occupied that land.
Good grief.
That sounds all ‘well and good’...but all of that money could be used, instead, to bring down the costs of the UW Madison-for all students. Certainly, the higher tuition that’s paid in by out -of-state residents should be being used to help keep costs down for our in-state students, no?
What is this-other than a vacuous attempt at more leftist virtue signaling?
And there’s the proof: Mnookin and the u-w officials who hatched this have -zero idea- how many native students will actually take them up on the offer-or what it will cost.
Right now?
It may or may not-but frankly? -none of them care. All they care about is the virtue signaling and the fact that ‘its exists’.
They, as guilty white liberals, want to feel better about themselves by saying ‘we did this’. We did this for the poor, pathetic, native American people of Wisconsin.
It’s all about ‘them’ and how they feel about themselves, really, and it’s why no one in America is quite as racist as a guilty white liberal. And they love the ‘white savior’ scenario.
I’m sure Jennifer Mnookin is going to tell everyone she knows about how...she was the one...who gave little ‘running deer’...his only real way out of poverty. She was his ‘white savior’.
And that’s why UW Madison is launching this program.
That-and the fact that Governor Evers couldn’t get this program crammed into the last budget. His team put all sorts of vapid virtue signaling in there- but republicans wisely took it out.
Because republicans know they are the stewards of other people’s money-and how hard we work for it.
Elite white liberals don’t work hard...and they only ever spend -other people’s- money.
Folks, Mnookin and u-w officials could have given Wisconsin native families -half price- tuition. Or something less than ‘a full ride and even your meals and your toilet paper is paid for’.... but.... ‘Free ride’ sounded most virtuous to the white liberals who run the institution...so they went with that. It’s not their money-and it only diverts money from -your kids-
And so, whatever.
And if I have two minutes here-I’ll mention this on the air: a legislative audit that came out Friday showing years after covid- 60 percent of our state workers are still working from home. Some of them are asked to report to an office one or two days a week. Others are simply working all five days from home.
This has republicans calling for an audit of state-owned and rented real-estate and office space-and rightly so.
And as I said on social media yesterday: Governor Evers and Maggie Gau should be -wanting- to participate in this effort in 2024.
If they really are ‘good stewards’ of our tax dollars, right?
We are years past covid, and we know that changed ‘how we work’ and ‘where we work’ in all sorts of ways...
And so...if Gov Evers and Maggie Gau are going to allow the vast majority of state workers to work from home now- okay.
If that’s the way, they want to play it. Fine. But then they should be more than willing to cooperate with repubs in doing a review of each governmental dept and determining where and how that department’s employees are going to work.
if working from home is really working so great with our government jobs-as the audit suggests- well then, great.
If that’s the way our lawmakers and Dept heads who set the rules for our state workers want to operate-going forward. Great.
But that means we need to responsibly end leases and sell excess state-owned office buildings and real estate. And it should be a no-brainer.
I cannot imagine why Evers, Gau, or the democrats would even object to that. After all, they are getting what they want: govt workers choosing their work conditions and working from home.
And by ending rents and selling excess state-owned buildings-some of them on very desirable real estate- they can be generating revenue to either spend more wisely- or return to the taxpayers.
This is a no-brainer-and republicans up for re-election next year should start pushing the issue not. And see if the dems are dumb enough to oppose this-
And oppose common sense cost-cutting.
