Is it the best or worst time to move on from Trump? Listeners chime in.

Jay Weber Show transcript 8-16-23 8:10am

I’m not surprised that- yet again- some listeners have taken my political analysis of Trump’s situation as ‘Trump hating’.

It’s not. It’s logical analysis from a guy who has proven himself to be nearly always right over the years.

But I thought I’d open the phone lines and get listener input on the latest ‘take’ that Trump supporters are finding irksome: it’s my earlier ‘walk’ thru the details of where these four Trump indictments leave us: with the democrats having orchestrated federal and state trials to fall in January and March-when the first primary voters are underway-

Which they hope ensures infuriated trump fans will turn out big and give him the nomination-

And even if the judges don’t give them their preferred start dates- the damage could be even worse-with active trump trials underway thru the summer and/or fall...with at least the Georgia State trial being televised- dominating all news coverage day-and-night-and leaving no room for an honest election about joe Biden’s epic failures over his first four years.

This is what I see coming-and as quite concerning.

And so, I said: I agree with Alan Dershowitz.

The entire point of this-legally-is to rush ahead and ensure the democrats can call Donald Trump a convicted criminal-and convince the American people that-regardless of who he is facing.

They want to be able to tell voters-especially low information voters who tend to decide our elections:

This man is a convicted criminal who tried to engineer an insurrection against the country and has no business being the president-or holding elected office-ever again.

And it doesn’t matter who the alternative is-so you-must- stick with Biden. The criminal you know, after all...right?

That is what the democrats and their left-wing strategists and activists want the prevailing narrative of 2024 to be. And so far? They are manipulating the GOP voters and orchestrating the situation beautifully.

You might hate to hear me say that-but the proof is in how angry you are about all this-right now.

This never-ending jihad against trump has republicans, conservatives, and trump fans thinking emotionally rather than logically.

And so- I want to run thru Jim Gerrity’s take from national review-which would be very similar to mine-

And then ask listeners-open phone lines and i won’t challenge you- just give me your take: do you agree voters on the right are being corralled like cattle- to be pushed over a cliff?

My motivation to keep him off of the ticket isn’t because I ‘hate Donald Trump’...it’s because he’s not logically the best candidate to win. At this point-he harms the party’s chances rather than helps them

Does the logic of this resonate with you? Or is it all wrong-with trump being the vessel for any effort to ‘Save America’ from left wing take over?

Here’s where I’d leave this for today:

You don’t have to hate Donald Trump to believe that he’s the ‘least logical’ candidate in 2024.

He’s already lost to Joe Biden once. He lost the popular vote to Hillary, too. Two-thirds of voters now say they don’t like him and won’t vote for him-

Moreover-he’s term limited to one more term even if he-did- manage to win, and so a big chunk of his own party leaders wouldn’t cooperate with him and would want nothing to do with a second trump term-

He'd be an immediate lame duck-and even if a second term-did- somehow -make Donald Trump and his supporter feeling ‘whole’ and ‘vindicated’, the country wouldn’t be in the position to launch a new run of conservatism after a putrid Joe Biden presidency-

As we would be with a different, more likeable, more viable candidate who could serve 8 years.

So-

Just logically- I can make a strong case that Donald Trump isn’t the most logical 2024 candidate.

But... Quite often- politics isn’t at all logical- instead- it’s ‘emotional’. And that’s where the democrats are ‘playing us’ and ‘manipulating us’ into giving them what they want: a weakened, damaged, unlikeable, convicted criminal as a 2024 candidate-

Hey- someone who Joe Biden can beat honestly-

Is their hope.

You don’t have to believe their strategy is going to work or that your fellow Americans are gullible enough to buy it. But that-is-their strategy.

And having watched gullible, uninformed American voters decide our most important elections for 35 years- I can tell you-they-are-that gullible.

Here's some texts:

Trump had his shot. But, he has alienated 60% of the GOP. We have a vocal 40% who are die hard supporters which won't win an election. This is what happens when you attack the swamp! It is like the Tea Party of 2009. Great ideas, attacking the status quo, and as a reward good people were elected only to be ridiculed by the swamp creatures and their sheeple supporters. At this point, a fresh face like Vivek Ramaswamy or Tim Scott are the better options.

Why don't you get over it? Trump is the nominee for the republican party. The voters are gonna have a choice Trump with his great economy or Biden or another Democrat with their shit hole economy.

Praying Trump isn't the nominee. Election will then devolve into a hate and lie fest like 2020, and the country will end up circling the drain even faster

Then stay home and don't vote Biden will win the election trump is the nominee get over it spend your time on attacking joe Biden Charlie Sykes

If another Republican ends up winning on the general, that person will not drain, the swamp, they'll play along with the Democrats just like they've always been the only one that's really gonna drain. The swamp is going to be Trump.

I think most of the general public feels. Biden and Trump...is this the best we can do in this country. Most of America is ready for someone new, period

Good morning! Sarah from West Bend again… I would love to hear Jay‘s thoughts on how we turned this from a perceived, fatalistic situation, to viewing what the solution could be. I heard this morning a lot of people lamenting that we can’t possibly win with Trump… OK. How do we ensure he’s not the candidate. Republicans need to get the ground game in place in the primary season to stop him from even being the cabinet. Forget about the general election, I've had him off at the pass without reaches to moderate and a hard ground game before we get in to Iowa. Have a great day!

Another question. Hearing you quote polls. And they are always wrong. Why do we continue pushing poll results and is there another way? John
