So- Milwaukee is going to be the host city for the 2024 republican convention. It’s not official yet, but the final step is just a formality: the full board that runs the RNC will have to put a rubber stamp on the site-selection-committee’s choice.
And it sounds like the democrats who run Nashville really were so petty that they let politics get in the way of their bid.
But, from the very beginning of this process, Reince Priebus was telling us that Milwaukee had several advantages, including the fact that Nashville already has so much convention and tourism business that they didn’t feel like they needed to go ‘all out’ to land this one, or shut down half of their city’s other nightlife during convention weekend.
Milwaukee also had the advantage of having just planned the 2020 democrat convention that was never really held here, due to covid.
We got sort of a shadow effort, at best.
But this Milwaukee recommendation comes after the selection committee-clearly- got tired of waiting around for Nashville Democrats to get their act together.
Just a week or two ago- two Nashville common council members moved to delay a vote on their host agreement with the RNC and there was some question as to when the delays would end.
And yes, we had several democrats here suggest that Milwaukee shouldn’t host, either, because democrat leaders control the city, but Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other city officials were smart enough to ignore the hyper partisanship.
And I know everyone from Scott Walker to Reince Priebus was celebrating this news over the weekend, but I’m both ‘hot and cold’ on Milwaukee hosting.
Of course, it brings in all sorts of commerce, tourism, and revenue. Of course, it is a good boost for local businesses.
But it could also bring with it angry antifa and BLM protesting and more violence and property destruction, depending on what the conditions ‘on the ground’ are, come 2024. Especially if Donald Trump is the GOP’s nominee.
And that’s another reason to ‘want’ the convention here: can you imagine the sort of media circus that we could have at the 2024 convention if Donald Trump is the runaway nominee again.
Now imagine the drama and the circus if trump goes into the convention with a rival like Ron DeSantis either just behind him or just ahead of him?
Can you imagine if, in a shocker, Ron DeSantis outpaces Trump in the primary elections, state to state, and we went into a convention in which trump was behind, but close, and by God-he and his supporters were going to wrestle this nomination away?
The potential for history-making, high drama in 2024, and to have it unfold here in Milwaukee, is fun to think about.
At least for someone who does a show like mine.
Did you hear that Ron DeSantis has overtaken Donald Trump in fundraising now?
This explains why-over the last week-I have gotten absolutely pounded with fundraising emails from the trump campaign and trump supporters. It has been-so crazy-that if I was an average ‘Joe’ or ‘Jane’, I’d be so angry that I’d refuse to donate.
These politicians can go too far, and their relentless onslaught of ‘asks’ often becomes a turnoff.
Trump’s ‘last chance to donate’ and ‘insider offers.’ And ‘we’ve got a Trump t-shirt for you if you donate’ sort of B.S. has been coming in in batches several times a day for a week now.
I didn’t check email on Saturday, and I had 32 emails from the Trump team on Sunday morning to delete.
This might explain the sudden push to fundraise-as well as the persistent stories about how Donald Trump wants to announce he’s officially running in 2024- before-this fall’s races which is strategically stupid for both himself and the party...
But....all these politicos are reporting their fundraising numbers now
So, the numbers probably don’t mean much-other than Ron DeSantis is taking on a more national profile-
But you know the MSM members and the Trump haters- they want to use this as evidence that republicans are giving up on Donald Trump.
But DeSantis is actively running for re-election. He is a candidate for governor this year. Trump isn’t running for anything. And so, donors big and small are funding-this fall’s races.
That explains this far more easily than ‘trump fatigue’, but the democrats, left wing journalists, and trump haters are desperately searching for-any- any-indication that Donald Trump isn’t viable in 2024.
It's getting silly. He’s still the most popular figure in the party- by far-when any questions are asked about the 2024 race.
But yes, Ron DeSantis is seeing his national profile raised because he has been a great, conservative, Trumpy governor. I see him as a far more effective communicator than trump and far more politically savvy... And I’d vote for DeSantis in a primary over trump, at this point, but if trump won the nomination, would have no problem voting for him for a second time.
I just think he’d have a harder time winning in 24 than a fresh candidate would, and given what a ‘layup’ 2024 should be for the republicans after 4 awful years of Biden, I just don’t want to see a blown opportunity if the polls are correct and too many independents, swing voters, and crossover democrats have soured on trumpto the point that he can’t win.
It's what recent polls are suggesting, but that doesn’t mean they are correct.
Meanwhile-the democrats are desperately hoping that a desperate Donald Trump will announce he’s running in 24- before-this fall’s elections.
It would be strategically stupid, because it allows the democrats and their powerful accomplices in the media to make the fall race about ‘Trump’ and not about ‘Biden’.
And to be clear: as powerful as our ‘alternative conservative’ media is today, virtually every single right wing news outlet, talk show, talking head, fox news-
Virtually all of them just ‘react’ to the agenda that the ny times, wash post, ap and left-wing outlets ‘decide’ is the agenda for the day.
The leftist news org-still-set the agenda for the entire country every day-because virtually all the conservative media outlets were set up as a ‘reaction’ to the left, correct?
Right from Rush Limbaugh’s first show-right thru the building of talk radio, fox news, conservative websites- the very nature of it has been to-react to the day’s news-as defined by the left.... not to drive the daily agenda.
And so that’s why I say- Trump getting in early would be stupid. Because even most people on-our side-of the media divide would be obsessing over trump, and not Biden’s failures.
And I know some trump supporters, like Lindsey Graham, are saying, ‘oh no, trump getting in now would energize the conservative base’.
No. It wouldn’t the conservative base is already energized. They don’t need to be convinced in fall.
Trump getting in now would energize-the liberal base- and their accomplices in the media- who are, right now, disillusioned and pouting on the sidelines. We want them pouting-and not voting-all thru the fall.
Trump putting himself back in play as a villain for them only helps drive left-wing turnout and negative press coverage for the right.
Let’s keep the negative press coverage and the daily news focus on Biden, the dems, and their failures.
There is- no question- which side trump’s early entry would benefit.
And if you doubt that- look at how the dems are salivating over the prospect:
Not to the degree that he will re-energize the disillusioned voters on the left. We want them staying home in fall...not leaping back up because. By God. Trump is at it again...
How hard is it to have some discipline and wait a few months?
Very hard for Trump. Who just cannot imagine how the world turns without him at the center of it?
