It is now official: Florida has a parental rights act that keeps leftist activists from polluting the heads of small children with twisted notions on sex and gender....
Gov Ron DeSantis officially signed that parental rights bill into law-
The one that the activists intentionally mislabeled and misrepresented as the ‘don’t say gay’ bill.
In typical fashion, these bullying activist groups need to lie and twist and engage in campaigns that misrepresent and vilify what we, on the right, are doing...to try to get their way and win elections.
And they need to lie -for the simple fact that the American people agree with republicans and conservatives on most of these issues: from taxes to global warming, to govt spending, to what should-and should not-be taught in our schools.
We, on the right, have the high ground on all these matters, and we know we do-because if the American people agreed with the democrats on these matters, they and their activists wouldn’t have to lie about everything. Right?
It's a simple litmus test for each issue: who is lying...and why do they need to?
The stories today say, ‘Gov Ron DeSantis faced intense pressure from Florida and beyond to veto the proposal.’
No. He really didn’t.
He only got pressure from a small subgroup of the community who wanted to vilify him and misrepresent what he and the legislative leaders were doing: passing what is-in truth- a very popular bill.
I cited a poll out of Florida-just yesterday-that shows even 52 percent of Florida’s democrat voters support this bill that DeSantis signed. And since about 15 percent were undecided- it turns out that only one-third of Florida’s democrats were opposed to this bill...
And that makes sense because no one in their right mind would think that teaching complex and graphic concepts on sex and gender-to kindergarteners-is a good idea.
The leftists got all upset when some conservative groups started to label this ‘grooming’...but ...that label is close to what it is: indoctrination.
If you are going to try to force militant leftist concepts related to gender and sexual identity onto five- to eight-year-old....so that they adopt these very controversial notions as ‘concrete’ truth...what would you call that other than indoctrination?
Well- ‘grooming’ fits. Doesn’t it?
There’s simply no reason for anyone in our schools to be addressing any of that stuff at such a young age-if at all.
And so, other than Hollywood elites, rabid left-wing groups, and the Walt Disney company....no, Ron DeSantis really-was not-under intense pressure to veto this.
And happily, for the parents of Florida- DeSantis didn’t let a wave of venomous-but ultimately narrow- opposition way him.
In fact- DeSantis had a bill signing-
Which I love.
And what I mean is- if he and Florida republicans were worried about how this bill would harm them with the public DeSantis could have quietly signed it away from the media...in the privacy of his office...right?
That’s the way governors and presidents sign unpopular bills: in hiding.
Conversely-if you want the people to ‘get word’ of what you are doing- you have a signing ceremony, right?
You set up the card table in the middle of the rose garden or the capitol rotunda...and invite the media...and make a show of signing this bill with a series of commemorative pens....
And so-after all of the venom and vitriol related to this parental rights bill- DeSantis and Florida republicans had a signing ceremony.
Because they know that what I’ve been saying is true: republicans should be embracing these culture wars for fall, and into 2024, because the democrats are such extremists and crackpots on them- that just being the ‘normal’ side of the aisle provides an opportunity for big wins.
And so, yet again- Ron DeSantis stood up for most Floridians and Florida parents-and signed a popular bill. And in doing so, made the activists look as extreme as they are.
More parental involvement in the decision-making surrounding their child is bad- how?
It is radical nonsense like this-from the left-that has republicans leading on educational issues by seven to ten points...according to the most recent polls-
And this is another area in which democrats-historically- have always led with voters.
Lord knows why, but it’s probably as simple as the democrats being the party of ‘massive spending’ on education...regardless of actual outcome.
Another issue that used to be a good one for democrats- is now a negative for them. And it is-because they are a party that now openly embraces the sort of extremism toward the curriculum and apathy toward learning, in general that has become a major turn off parents...
The covid pandemic made it -crystal clear- to all sorts of parents that the democrats only care about the teachers’ unions...and couldn’t care less about the children.
They let Dem mayors and teachers’ unions keep the schools closed for a year or better...and them. Even after they did agree to reopen them-put our children under insane-and useless-mask mandates and distancing protocols.
Add to that the parents discovering -due to remote learning-some of the crap that their children were being taught- like critical race theory and ‘gender politics’ and yes, it’s time for a parental and voter backlash. Yeah.
The change that is occurring in our schools has been a healthy one...with more parents’ groups forming and getting involved. More demanding to see curricula and more of what their children are being taught.
More transparency is never a bad thing-especially in education.
When i was teaching, I found that the good teachers and administrators were always proud of what they were doing and would invite you in to talk about it, watch their classes, see them teach...
Even with parents: if you have questions, or are just interested, come on in and watch a while, or help as a teacher’s aide-
The teachers and the administrators who were confident and proud of the job they were doing and the content they were teaching- were never reluctant to show it. Explain it. Engage with the parents and the public.
Only the rotten teachers and slippery administrators wanted to keep the parents out and the doors closed...
And so-if that’s how you are met-as a parent- who tries to make inquiries.... know that something stinks in that school....or with that teacher.
Unless they are just new to it and not really confident, yet. That might be one reason they don’t want you in the classroom...but...veteran teacher? They shouldn’t have any problem with transparency.
