West Allis Teachers Go Maskless After Mandating Masks for Students

Less than two weeks after the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District mandated masks for all students to begin the upcoming school year, nearly everyone who attended a new teacher orientation event Thursday did not wear a mask in a school district building.

"Our new teachers spent the day together getting ready for a new year at WAWM! Welcome!" the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District wrote on its Facebook page. "We are so glad you're here! #WAWMproud"

Earlier this month, the West Allis/West Milwaukee School Board voted to begin the year with a mask mandate for all grade levels.

"So we start with the safest approach following the guidance, and then whether it's four weeks or six weeks in, we start to look at how things are going in secondary schools in particular. And then we also set some metrics in what we would want to see in order to trigger some of that," Superintendent Martin Lexmond told CBS 58 News at the time.
