Wisconsin Democratic Party Gave $10,000 to Judge Charged with Child Porn

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin made a $10,583.64 in-kind contribution to Brett Blomme's campaign for Milwaukee County judge last March. Blomme was charged Wednesday with seven counts of possession of child pornography.

Campaign finance records obtained by "The Dan O'Donnell Show" also revealed that IBEW Local 494 PAC--a political action committee funded by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 494 union--made a $250 monetary donation on March 24, 2020.

Neither the union nor the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has yet responded to a request for comment.

Blomme was arrested Tuesday after investigators executed search warrants at his homes in Cottage Grove and Milwaukee and in his courtroom and judicial chambers in the Milwaukee County Courthouse. He was charged the following day with seven counts of possession of child pornography and faces decades of prison time if convicted. The seven charges each carry a mandatory minimum of three years in prison.

According to a criminal complaint, Blomme shared pictures and videos containing the sexual assault of children as young as toddlers through the messaging app Kik last fall. Kik flagged the content Blomme shared and alerted authorities.

Blomme is a major figure in Milwaukee Democrat circles, as he was the President and CEO of the Cream City Foundation and very close with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. Barrett even wrote to recommend Blomme for a judicial appointment in 2019, praising his "qualifications, integrity and values."

"The allegations are alarming," Barrett said in a news release Wednesday. "The reports of the arrest came as a complete surprise."
