Amanda Avalos, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's nominee for a seat on the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission is a radical police-hater with a long history of making anti-police statements on her social media pages.
In just the past year, Avalos--who currently serves as senior civic engagement director for community organizing group Leaders Igniting Transformation--has tweeted dozens of times about her contempt for law enforcement generally and the Milwaukee Police Department specifically. She has made numerous calls to defund the Milwaukee Police Department and reallocate its budget to fund community groups such as the one that currently employs her.
If confirmed by the Milwaukee Common Council Tuesday, Avalos would serve a five-year term on the Fire and Police Commission; the civilian board that oversees the Milwaukee Fire and Police Departments.
