The Forgotten History of 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'

It has been a holiday favorite for more than 50 years...and it was sung by a girl who was barely a teenager.

Brenda Lee was just 13 years old when she recorded the song on October 19th, 1958.

Decca Records released it that Christmas season, but it only sold 5,000 copies.  The single was re-released the following year and tanked again.

But in 1960, Lee became a star with her hit "I'm Sorry," and a few months later her barely-noticed Christmas song was released a third time.  This turned out to be the charm, because "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" turned into a huge hit, and it has stayed a huge hit every Christmas since.

Not bad for a 13 year-old girl, huh?
